Sunday

So, Trey mentioned on his blog this morning that my concert yesterday was fantastic (thanks, Schatz!)…here’s my take:

(I’m having trouble wording this so it doesn’t sound like an orgy, so bear with me) Have you ever had and experience in which you are doing something as part of a group but feel like you’re almost operating on a different plane? Yesterday during our opening piece, the Bach Lobet den Herrn, I felt so into some kind of groove – everything was clicking and for a few moments it was such a musically perfect thing to be participating in. It was so surreal, almost an out-of-body experience in that I felt like my mind was disconnected from the rest of me, or like I was weightless but somehow connected with everyone else in the group. It was so different from anything else I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve had the privilege of singing with some incredible groups in some really excellent concerts – truly magical, I guess.

Ok, I guess that’s enough of that. The rest of the concert was great, too, but not like that first piece (but that’s probably the type of feeling you don’t get all that often anyway, if you’re lucky enough to ever have it). Trey said that he was impressed – that he was expecting good things, especially with the way I come home from rehearsals raving about the group, but wasn’t expecting anything that good. I think my mom’s socks were knocked off, too – she kept using the word “professional.” God, I love singing with this group. With Thanksgiving coming up I keep thinking that the CCC is one of the things that I’m most thankful for this year!

After the concert we headed to Oma & Ota’s for Ota’s birthday dinner. It’s so funny to go over there and interact with my family, meaning we always have a really good time telling stories and giving each other a hard time. I’d write a book about it, but I’m probably too partial because I’ve grown up with it. Maybe Trey will write a book about it someday. Anyway, dinner was yummy, and Oma had my favorite strudel for dessert – Mohnstrudel (poppyseed strudel). I could eat that stuff all day.

After that it was back home to watch the second half of the Bear’s game – go Bears!

I totally know what you're talking about with the almost out of body experience when performing with a group that just clicks. I had that feeling a couple of times while playing with First Flight at UD. Hurray for you finding such a good group to sing with! I'll have to make a trip out sometime to see a concert.

I think anytime you perform with a group that syncs that way... it knocks your socks off. That's great you have such a wonderful group!

Mmmmm... strudel! mmmmmmmm....

Though it's been a long time, yes, I do understand what you are saying. There's really nothing else quite like it.
