The funny below is one you've probably all seen before - Karen sent it around again this morning. I love getting it, and each time I see it I stop and reflect on it a little, getting far too serious with is just as I do with many other things. Still, it's cute, and I hope you all enjoy it. Feel free to complain or debate - I'd be happy to give my opinions, too!
EVE'S TALK WITH GOD
"Lord, I have a problem."
"What's the problem, Eve?"
"I know that you created me and provided this beautiful garden and all of
these wonderful animals, as well as that hilarious comedic snake, but I'm
just not happy."
"And why is that Eve?"
"Lord, I am lonely, and I'm sick to death of apples."
"Well, Eve, in that case, I have a solution. I shall create a man for you."
"Man? What is that Lord?"
"A flawed creature, with many bad traits. He'll lie, cheat and be vain; all in all, he'll give you a hard time. But he'll be bigger, faster and will like to hunt and kill things. I'll create him in such a way that he will satisfy your physical needs. He will be witless and will revel in childish things like fighting and kicking a ball about. He won't be as smart as you, so he will also need your advice to think properly."
"Sounds great," says Eve, with ironically raised eyebrows, "but what's the catch Lord?"
"Well ... you can have him on one condition."
"And what's that Lord? "
"As I said, he'll be proud, arrogant and self-admiring ... so you'll have to let him believe that I made him first. And it will have to be our little secret ... you know, woman to woman."

OUCH...
Come on now...
Justin
Makes me smile. :-)
No, you don't understand. I like this in an affectionate way. Here's an example - men being like kids can be great because it makes us women, who take everything too seriously and worry too much, laugh...like when Trey gets excited about monkeys. :-)
Each sex has things that they're good at - usually men are taller so they get things off of the top shelf for us, but women tend to be more organized so they keep schedules better.
On another topic in here...I still like to think of God as a woman.
Girls, anyone else want to take a stab at this?
God I love God! I think God is really asexual....but yet I can't stop saying "him" when I refer to him...see!
I don't think God is a woman or a man. Let's hope not, or we both are in a heap of trouble. The line "so you'll have to let him believe that I made him first. And it will have to be our little secret ... you know, woman to woman" is what made me think ouch. But that was your plan all along right?
women are devious and clever.
and men are entertaining and fun.
the notion of god as a single sex just seems weird. it's hard for me to think that even though "it" is all-knowing, blah blah blah that "it" can fully relate to all of my issues as a woman if "it" isn't a woman. but men can make the same point.
i could then argue that my issues aren't related to me being a woman at all but more that i'm human. obviously i'm not the only one on the planet who gets scared, lonely, worried, elated, excited, etc. by this less biased view, a person of any gender (or a god of any gender) could relate.
didn't i take this class freshman year - phil101??
Thanks Karen for your short explanation...I think that's what I meant, Justin.
Sorry to get so serious on a little funny, but that's me. I think it's neat the kind of discussion this one has the potential to bring up, though.
I think God is both male and female, not either or or none. As Karen said, God can understand one fully regardless of gender.
VERY FUNNY JOKE regardless.
I have a hard time thinking God is a female. Why would the Bible refer to our Heavenly Father? And the church His Bride? Its just not right, and it offends me, but that's what blogs are for I guess is to share your thoughts.
Holly
Sorry that the discussion offended you Holly. Here's more of my take on the issue, though...
The Bible was written by men. There are theories out there about books written by women which were a little risque and were obviously taken out/lost/destroyed or whatever. Men and women are physiologically different, so men are usually the ones with more physical strength. For most of history, the party that was physically stronger won and therefore got to control what was written. Sort of like how the winners always get to write the history books?
Along those lines, the Catholic church still won't let women be priests because Jesus was a man. Well, given the culture at the time, I'd bet that Jesus as a woman would probably have been stoned and killed so God sent him as a man so people would be more prone to listening. That was the culture of the day, but I don't think that should mean that ancient cultural standards should be applicable today, especially when you look at things from a practical standpoint. Even if Adam was created first (I prefer the text that has them being created at the same time), why would God create an equal partner for him but make her less than equal?
When I started this thing I said that I liked to think of God as female, which isn't to say that I think it is - I usually think of it as more of a unisex entity, with stregths of both human sexes.
Well, I think if you are going to believe in the God of the Bible, you need to believe that the Bible is the complete and infallible Word of God, not men. So, the whole notion of women writing books of the Bible that were thrown out just because men were in control is crazy. There are strict rules that they used to DISCOVER (not invent) the canonicity of writings. So, if women did write things, they did not pass the test of being considered part of the cannon, so were not included in the Bible. And yes, God did create us women after, but EQUAL TO man. This does NOT mean we are THE SAME as men, though. He made us to compliment each other. Just because a woman's role is less in the spotlight and not the head hauncho does not make her role any less important. The Bible and it's teaching on the role of women is the most liberating philosophy for women. Especially in Jesus’ day. He was considered a fanatic for the way he treated women with love and interacted with them. I know it doesn't line up with the feminist movement of the nineties and today, but that's because the ideas that are promoted by feminism today lie about the liberation of women. In reality it makes women think that to be happy they need to be more like men, which in fact does not let them experience the true joy they were designed to experience. Instead, while trying to be more man-like, women have to take on all of the hardship and challenges of being in leadership and in control while still feeling all of the emotions that women naturally feel. In order to obtain the feminist dream, women have to suppress their natural inclinations. I think it is a very unhealthy and unbiblical philosophy. I'm not saying that women shouldn't be in leadership, though. I just think it is a different kind of leadership that we should approach in our own feminine way following the guidelines that God set out for us in the Bible. Well, I didn't really mean to preach a whole sermon, but I don't think anybody will be reading it, since you posted this a long time ago and I'm just now writing my comment. Oh well.
