It's a Monday

I hate it when I’m looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend, only I’ve miscalculated and the weekend has left me even more drained. I had tons of fun, but I’m starting Monday feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck! If anyone has a good trick for getting over this kind of think without it requiring sleep, please let me know!

Friday night Trey and I opened the first of two bottles of wine we’ve been saving for a few years – this once since the fall we met (2002). This was a 98 Californian Cab I’d actually picked out because it was on closeout, and Trey wasn’t so sure about it. After we tried it the first time we went back to buy more. I’m glad we didn’t try to hold it any longer, but it had certainly improved – the tannins had softened up and turned it into a really nice, flavorful wine that went really well with the little fillets we cooked up. It made for a really nice evening.

Now I can’t wait to open the bottle of 1998 Cab from Springtown Texas we bought that summer! I remember us trying it, deciding that it needed to age at least 2 years, and buying it – doing that scared us both to death, as we’d known each other less than 2 months at that point!

Saturday I did a Partylite show for my mom’s friend Marguerite (anyone need candles?), which turned out to be a nice afternoon. I actually got the morning to do a few things around my house, including a new step aerobics video that finished with a lot of core work focusing on obliques. I’ve had some major delayed onset muscle soreness for 2 days now – maybe that’s why I’m so beat.

Yesterday after Trey and I went to church in the morning he went to help Mark move into Mark & Karen’s new house and I went with Kristin and mom to find Kristin a wedding dress – we found one! She slept on it, but I think she and my mom are going back tonight to buy it. She’s going to look like a princess!

After the shopping it was dinner at Oma’s with all 4 Rill kids, Trey, Karen, Oma & Ota, mom, Godi, Onkel Walter, Tante Amy & the boys. I swear, if you want to laugh, come watch dinner at Oma’s when everyone’s around. We’re all joking around & giving each other a hard time, Trey’s eating a lot (he didn’t grow up with this stuff and has to make up for lost time), people laugh and get loud…I so look forward to it every time. Last night was rouladen and Oma made those Austrian style bread dumplings, among other things, and poppyseed strudel. Oma knows that’s my favorite!

So, after all the food and running around yesterday, I’m beat. I was going to go see Yo Yo Ma in the park tonight and meet up with Deb, but the weather is really crappy – I’m almost glad so I can just go home and take a nap…or fall asleep on the train on the way home and not have to worry about going anywhere!

I want to eat at Oma's. It sounds like a hoot. You have a bottle of wine from Springtown, TX? That is like 20 minutes from my parents house. Who knew you could bottle wine there? I have an aunt in Springtown, maybe she is a bootlegger! Nah not possible. I know what you mean about the weekend beat down on Monday morning. If you come up with any solutions, let me know as well!

Glad to hear your weekend was fun and exciting. I want to eat at Oma's :-)

I don't think there are any helps in recovering from weekends. Just going back to work is usually the only thing. :-( Sad as that is sometimes. I thought that I was going to have an actual weekend off from activies but "auntly" duties are calling this coming one. (Not that I'm complaining)

Oddly enough, they make GOOD wine at La Buena Vida vineyards in Springtown. Check it out sometime! They also have a tasting room in Grapevine.

Oma food is the best, mostly because it's made with love. Karen, have you ever had Oma's rouladen? If not, I will have to get her to freeze some for you next time she makes them, then we'll bring them out when we come to visit next.

I want to know when that visit happens! :-) I haven't had rouladen since my great grandmother passed away in the 80's.
