So, I got lab results, and there's nothing wrong with my iron levels or with my thyroid. I don't have those exact levels, but when I talked to the doc's office, they said everything was normal. I have been feeling less tired the past few days, but I've still be spacey.
I have one other idea, that I didn't think of until last night while I was talking to someone else about this...(TMI alert) I'm wondering if the days when I've been really exhausted, like last week when I called in sick, have anything to do with PMS (I called in sick Thursday because I was so tired I could barely get out of bed, and Friday my period started).
Thinking back a couple of months, I called in sick NYE, really because of a nasty cold but also because I was completely worn out - I wonder if I was more worn out because it was the day before my period started than I was from the cold. Also, since the beginning of December my cycle has also gone from about 6 weeks to exactly 28 days. Have I had less energy overall because my cycle is shorter? I think I'll need to start keeping a journal about this. Anyone else's thoughts and experiences would be welcome
On a completely different note, my cholesterol is great. The last time I had a fasting cholesterol test was about 2 1/2 years ago, and my total cholesterol was 235. Last year in May, when I did non-fasting finger-prick test, it was something like 210. This time - 189. I don't think I've EVER had a total number under 200 - never in my lifetime. All of the individual #s are great, too - HDL is 66 (awesome!), LDL is 106, and triglycerides are 83.
I have no idea why it's gone down so much - I stopped hormonal birth control just over 3 years ago, so I guess that would explain the drop from 235 to 210, but now a year later I've got a drop of almost 20 points? The only thing I can think of in this respect is that I started eating oatmeal for breakfast almost every day, as opposed to my Starbucks wheat flax braid, and snacking on Cheerios a lot. Crazy.
Anyway, that's enough for now - have a good weekend all, and I'll write about something more interesting next time. :-)

That is awesome that your cholesterol is down! YAY for you!!!
I have been tired lately too. I wonder for me if it is just the time of year or if I have been so busy and things are just catching up with me. I should probably check my iron levels, but I'll just take an iron supplement and see if it helps. :) You are not alone in the tired game...
i would think that eating oatmeal would be beneficial - intersting that you're guessing it might be having negative effects....
Not sure on the other stuff as i'm out of the loop on your options. Perhaps the 5 year IUD (non-horomonal) would be something to consider?
Did that read that I thought oatmeal had a negative effect? I meant the opposite - that oatmeal likely had something to with my my total cholesterol dropping.
Getting the IUD put in was such a painful experience that when I get it taken out I'm not getting another one put in. That's part of the reason Trey and I have the "he's getting snipped by age 35" deal. Plus, I'm not sure of the dose of hormones in Mirena (the 5-year). If I go the hormonal route, I'm going to ask for the lowest dose I can get - I've read about women taking extremely low dose hormonal BCPs to alleviate PMS and cramps.
My aunt actually sent me an e-mail shortly after I posted this with a little bit about her own experience. This prompted me doing some digging, and I found that PMS typically starts to get worse after you turn 30 (it also said after 1 kid, but I'm guessing the majority of women have had 1 kid by then).
My aunt also sent me a chart and I'm now starting to chart PMS symptoms so the next time I go in for my annual I can ask about the possibility of alternative or herbal remedies. My annual is in October, however, so if the PMS continues to be bad for the next few months, I'll go in sooner just to focus on that issue.
Um yeah can totally agree to the whole PMS is worse after the 1st kid. It gets worse with each kid and my doc confirmed that at my last annual. I know that I get the way you are describing the the letter 2 days before flo visits. Then I'm miserable for the first 2 days. It's like I'm dealing with female issues that I dealt with when I was 16. Not fun! Just glad I don't have to worry about that for a while now. ;-)
Okay. I will leave the female issues aside, but I thought Cheerio's whole thing was they reduce cholesterol? Curious. Sorry you feel bad. Maybe you need to get out of that cold city and move to TEXAS!

Ok, maybe I need to be more obvious, but I'm also attributing the drop in cholesterol partially to Cheerios, NOT saying that I think they made me cholesterol go up.
I read my post over - am I doing something dumb grammatically and just not realizing it? Lisa, you're the English teacher - am I making sense?
Great news on the cholesterol, and I would guess that you're right about the oatmeal and Cheerios.
I've also noticed some changes in my PMS symptoms over the past couple of years. I stopped taking the pill several years ago, and had a horrible time with cramps and PMS about 3 years ago. Then when I started working out and losing weight it got so much better. Recently though I'm noticing the same symptoms you're describing. Damn, getting old sucks.
