I always look forward to August because late in the spring and earlier in the summer when things are crazy, I always seem to get the idea that somehow August will be relaxing. In recent years that really hasn't happened, but this year is proving to be different. This past weekend, for example, I had Kindergruppe on Friday, but I had absolutely nowhere I had to be for the rest of the weekend - I wasn't even singing in church on Sunday morning. I live for weekends like this, especially since they only happen about two or three times a year. I think I may actually get one more weekend in like this in August, though, which is awesome!
Ok, so what have I actually been doing? Well, spending time with the Kindergruppe for one - we've had two practices and Tag der Donauschwaben (picnic last Sunday) within an 8-day period. The kids were so cute last Sunday - I had one little boy (4 yrs old) drag his partner over to me in the middle of a dance because her shoes were not on correctly. It had the audience in stitches. I also managed to play guitar much better than I did last year - I wasn't really that embarrassed by myself!
I've also been spending time with Trey - always nice. :-) We've managed to find a few quick & easy, but very gourmet-looking recipes lately (doesn't "Pork Chops Saltimbocca" sound complicated?), have some good but inexpensive wine, and just veg on the couch together. I'm also excited for Trey that his classes start up soon. I know he'll be a lot happier being able to play more, and I know working back at Binny's the past couple of weeks have been good for him, too. So far none of his paychecks have gone to cellaring wine, and hopefully we can hold off on that for a little while longer!
I've started really looking more into possibilities for our vacation in November - I think I've got our days in Vienna mostly set. We'll probably spend a day in the old part of the city, do another one at Schoenbrunn seeing both the palace and the zoo (I know I'm a dork, but I LOVE zoos!) , take one day to go to the cemetery, see Mozart's haus and go to the opera (Salome will be playing at the State Opera one night while we're there), and spend our last day doing wine-related things. Next I'll be planning some Salzburg fun. :-)
Finally, I have been trying to see Logan at least once a week. He's starting to smile and laugh, he's strong and really holds his head up well, and is just generally cute. Here's a picture Kristin took a couple of weeks ago:

Have a great week!

Vacation? Vienna? Are you going to meet Katrin???
Logan is very cute. :) We have a friend who has a toddler named Logan. We were talking about berries, and she said LOGANberries are her favorites and she buys them every chance she gets. hehehehe.
How adorable!! :)
I'm jealous of your vacation already!
dude - you need to go meet katrin!!!!!
i LOVE zoos too - how can you not!?
are you gonna be near Berlin??? you can go the Berlin zoo and see Knut... he's probably not a cute little baby polar bear anymore... he he he..
love you bunches!!! I've got a couple more pictures of you and Logan I'll give 'em to you when you come visit me this WEEKEND!!! I'm SOO EXCITED!!!
What a cute picture of you and the little guy! Sounds like a fun trip! Have you already bought your airline tickets? What's the price these days?
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Of course we're gonna meet. :) :) :) Although you have a great big plan, music and animals and all.
No, I won't be in Berlin, but I have been to that zoo. It was before Knut was born, though...
Airline tickets were "purchased" with frequent flier miles - hooray for the off season! We got the AA credit card during their anniversary year and ended up with 40,000 bonus miles, enough for 1 ticket to Europe off-peak, and we had enough stocked up for a second ticket. Even better, we've had no annual fee for 2 years in a row, and since we always pay the balance in full, they're not making any interest off of me. Go me!
The downside to going in November is that Hellbrun (Salzburb) is closed...I really wanted Trey to do that tour. It's so cool!
Oh, and if anyone wants to send anything along for Katrin, feel free to pass it along. Keep in mind, however, that I'll already have 1/4 of a suitcase filled with Jello for my Tante Susi.
