Monday, Monday

I've got the song by the Mamas & the Papas in my head right now. Actually, I just have the opening line going on repeat in my head, which is significantly more annoying. That happens a lot on Mondays. Oh, well.

I don't think I really remember what I have and haven't reported on recently, so here are some random updates:

-Trey got sick right after I did. Our Wednesday night opera double-bill was cut short when we decided that although we really wanted to stay for Pagliacci, the dry air was killing both of us. The extra hour of sleep did us both some good.

-This weekend we had almost nothing planned, and we canceled going out for sushi to celebrate my birthday (I decided that since I only get sushi once or twice a year, I wanted to actually be able to enjoy it). Instead, I made goulasch, which turned out incredibly well with some minor recipe amendments. From now on I'm using red onion instead of white, doubling the paprika, and adding a 1/2 cup of wine for each pound of meat. :-)

-The wine used for said goulasch was some stuff that we picked up at Aldi that was horrible (hey, for 2.99 anything is worth trying, and it's not all bad at that price). We almost poured it down the drain until Trey suggested that we freeze it to use for recipes. We put it in ice cube trays, and though it doesn't quite stay frozen, it's a great idea! We just have to make sure the bags with the mushy ice cubes don't end up under anything else in the freezer.

-Last Friday my group at work went out for our quarterly lunch out together, and since I'm the birthday this quarter I got to pick. I decided on tapas at Cafe Iberico, and though I think people were intimidated at first (one of them looked terrified when we got there and the menu had names of everything in Spanish), everyone ended up having a ball. It makes me want to go out for tapas all the time now.

-I'm very proud of Trey. If you haven't yet read his blog, take a visit and you'll see why.

Other than that my 30th passed without much commotion, which is nice. My mom took a really cute picture at the Kindergruppe's brunch last week (it's on her blog). So far, the only thing that sucks about being 30 is that I can no longer check the 20-29 box on surveys. :-)

Have a great day all!

Dude, you're old now. 30. Good thing I'm still 29.....LOL!

Good call on waiting to celebrate. Who wants to have a crappy time? Better to save the moment until you feel really good.
