So, things have been crazy of late, but I still feel good. We'll see if that continues to be the case for the next few weeks. We're still two weeks away from Christmas and it'll be busy throughout. This weekend was no exception. Some highlights:
I had a concert Saturday night. I'm 99.9% sure that no one in the group reads this blog so I'm going to be honest and say that a lot of it was bad. This group is never as high-level as I'm used to with CCC, but this concert was just bad. There were a couple of pieces that were Ok as far as tuning goes, but they were still really sloppy in terms of releases, etc. There were a few other ones that were just bad because they were so horribly out of tune and contained so many wrong notes. I told Trey & my mom not to come because I didn't want their ears being assaulted. Thank God it's over. I may or may not sing with the group again - depends on an audition I have on Sunday.
Other than that I had church and rehearsals, but that's normal. Oh, wait, I did finish all of the Christmas shopping I'm not doing online! I'd found something special for Evi in October, and was lucky enough to get the very last one. Woo-hoo!
Monday & Tuesday I got to do a writing/editing workshop, the first session of which was called "Group Therapy for Writers." Awesome. You can imagine how excited I was when one of the visual examples of miscommunication used was from the Cakewrecks blog! I was even more excited that we were cut loose each day at 4pm, which meant that getting to my gig last night shouldn't have been a problem...except that the train broke down...and there was also a snowstorm. The two hours to get to the gig dwindled to one - impossible without the snowstorm given it was rush hour - and fortunately another soprano was nearby and jumped in for me.
What else is new? Oh, yeah. Yesterday the governor got arrested. Finally! It's about (bleep)ing time. Watching this all unravel is appalling.
That's it for now - hopefully I can get to more later this week!

Who the heck voted that guy into office?
I get that I only know about 4 people from that state and that is not an accurate sampling size. However, ALL of them have very different political views, and NONE of them liked him. So who voted him in?!??
(that was me - I hit the "post" button and realized I wasn't finished)
I don't think he was like that before he was governor. His initial campaign was based on him being a reformer and weeding out corruption. Go figure.
I can only assume that people hadn't caught wind of this while his re-election was going on either. By now things have certainly changed though. His disapproval rating just prior to this was 70% and most of the state has thought for quite some time that he's a sleeze ball.
The governor is just carrying out the tradition of corruption in the governor's office.
four out of the last 7 governors of Illinois have been arrested:
Otto Kerner
Dan Walker
George Ryan
and now .... Rod....sad, isnt' it?
Viki, please see me blog for a picture of your Christmas gift.....
that many went to jail!?!? oh my god.
sorry to hear the concert was lousy - i agree it's probably better for you to spend your time with more quality groups if you're not proud of the final result....
Yeah, Politics in Illinois were pretty bad when I worked for the Illinois EPA. They had definite opinions of Blago!!
That's crazy.
4 arrested govenors. That's also crazy.
Yet, I'm somehow amused. what, he thought he was above the law? That his corruption wasn't corruption? B/c trust me, the other 3 guys probably thought the same thing...
Ironically enough, the next guy that promises reform against corruption, would one even believe that person at this point?!??
Perhaps the whole office should be wiped out and anyone related to it elmininated. And banned from politics at all (their party included, plus the individuals) for a period of time (or for ever). Much like they did with the political party of Thailands recently ousted Prime Minister...
Is it strange that I am jealous for your snowstorm? Winter so far has only amounted to rain and cold wind! :(
Howdy! I was at your performance at The Bean tonight (12/12)! You guys were awesome as usual, but it was SOOO cold. I'm taking my family to the Music Box Christmas Show on 12/21...will you be singing that day??? Happy Holidays and keep up the good work!
