Coming up for air

I'm swamped, but I'm having fun. I think this is one of the few times in recent years that I've felt like I'm really, really, really looking forward to Christmas - actually, I'm looking forward to the weekend after Christmas, when I do not have to be anywhere at all! :-)

What's been going on? Aside from the normal rehearsals to get ready for lots of Christmas stuff, there's been performing as well. Friday night a group from CCC sang at the Bean in Millennium Park, which was cold (18 degrees!), but fun. You'd think that with it being really cold not many people would show up, but there was a really large and enthusiastic crowd. They sang along and cheered and kept calling for more songs after we'd finished. My only big issue was that my fingers got too cold - even with two pairs of gloves and alternating hands in pockets, my fingertips got numb. When I got inside and started thawing them out, it got painful underneath my fingernails. Any suggestions on how to avoid this in the future from people who spend lots of time outside?

Sunday night we had a neighborhood caroling party, which was not as well attended as last year but resulted in some memorable happenings nevertheless. Although we caroled at fewer houses, several people brought us out cookies - that didn't happen at all last year. We also got to sing at lots of homes with kids, and I guess interrupted bath time at one of them - dad answered the door and called upstairs, at which point little girl ran downstairs in her pjs, and little boy ran down without his (he was waving a towel). When he realized what was going on he quickly ran back upstairs, but those of us who witnessed it had a hard time singing because we were laughing so hard!

On the social end - Saturday night we also had some folks over for dinner, again doing our Stout and Cheddar Rarebit and trying out a new recipe for Bloody Mary Steak Bites. We started off with appetizers and bubbley, had some great reds with dinner, and ended with Brownie Pie and Ice Wine. Yummy!

I think I'll leave it at that for now. I will try to get to reading some of your blogs today and tomorrow, and get more on to mine later in the week!

You are so busy!!
How fun!
and I know about cold now. We've been getting in the teens for a couple days now. Sunday the windchill was near zero. :)

I would have laughed at the poor little guy in the towel.

I heard about gloves with battery operated heaters in them...

I would love a 0 windchill - yesterday morning the windchill in Palatine was -13!

Those hot hand warmer things work great. I use to put one in each hand in my glove and then would curl my fingers around them as they got cold. Mittens work better than gloves... for things like that if you wear them.

i think, especially if i were a kid, that having real (and talented!) singers at my door would be worth showing off my wee-wee. ha!

Thanks JJ!

Mittens are a good idea, but it's hard enough to turn pages singing in gloves. Mittens would be really bad for that. :-)
