Weekend

So, the weekend went by with plenty of time in the car, but I only called a couple of people. Unfortunately, I found that time in the car was also needed for some of my eating time (don't worry, I only eat things in the car that are not messy or drippy - oranges that are already peeled and segmented, crackers, etc.). Sorry about that to those who did not get calls.

This weekend was a pretty good one overall. Thursday night Trey's flight ended up getting delayed so much that we met up on each of our ways home (him from the airport, me from rehearsal), which ended up in about 45 minutes with each other Thursday night. Had his flight not been delayed, he would've been asleep by the time I got home, so I consider this a lucky occurrence.

Friday night we spent on the couch together - hooray! We had wine and made our new favorite recipe for pasta carbonara, which is VERY quick and also pretty healthy if you use whole wheat pasta (we use spaghetti rather than bow-tie noodles) and don't include the drippings from the bacon. Yum!

Saturday started off with me singing with the German school kids for a little while, then driving down to Hyde Park to sing a wedding at one of the University of Chicago chapels. I was wondering if I'd run into street closures because Barak Obama lives in Hyde Park, and while I did drive past a closed street I was not forced to reroute - another hooray! The wedding went well, and after that it was back up to Evanston for my Chicago Chamber Choir concert.

Now, this concert deserves an extensive blog post by itself - it was all Jewish music, almost all in Hebrew. It required a lot of work, but the end result was a very moving concert in my opinion. If I have time later this week I will go into all of that but right now I want to toot my own horn...

I had a big solo in this concert, which is my first official big solo with the group (I've filled in for people before if they've missed side gigs, but never had one myself). I was especially proud that this was essentially the title song of the concert: "L'ador Vador" translates into "from generation to generation" and the concert was called "From Generation to Generation: Songs of the Jewish People." So, here I am, I've got my first big solo with CCC on the title song in the concert, Trey and my mom are each there, and get this - after the Saturday night concert a man comes up to me and says, "You know, your Hebrew is excellent, and I should know because I'm from Israel." How cool is that? Go me!

The rest of the weekend was fun, too - we went to a nice little pub in Evanston after the concert, then Sunday morning it was back up for church and then a repeat of CCC, this time at a synagogue downtown. Someone from work was at that concert, so I was especially happy that for this set of performances, there was someone in the audience just for me for each one - that's always nice. :-)

Ok - more later this week...once I get to reading about everyone else's weekend!

I don't know why it amuses me so much, but it does. Good job! I love hearing compliments, although I don't know how to gracefully thank someone for them.

Congratulations! Hebrew must be really hard to pronounce. :)
