Any takers?

So, on the plaza outside of my office building today there is a tent thingie set up. Apparently Gatorade is launching a new drink: Gatorade Tiger. The promotion out there today is called the "Gatorade Tiger Moonhut Challenge." Any takers on what this might be? If I get out at lunch and they're still there I'll report back!

uhh. does it involve golfing in low-gravity environments? Or off the tops of buildings?

Ironically they say that those sports drinks aren't really needed unless REALLY working out. I really don't think golfing - even if walking a course - qualifies as actually needed to replace the electrolytes DURING the "workout" with a sports drink. Especially b/c I thought GatoradeTiger actually has MORE electrolytes overall or just more salt. Upping before or after is sufficient for most workouts, even hard workouts for normal individuals. (different for during a training workout for, say, professional athletes, or workouts that span a couple hours).

I've tried the new stuff and it tastes rather nasty. Danny likes the taste, but did say it was different.

In the defense of golf... the only time I can really see the need for a sports drink would be on hot days or where the courses aren't covered a whole lot. Then again the beverage of choice I've seen is beer... :-D

The only time I really drink sports drinks is when I am working (for work) outside, in the heat, and wearing heavy PPE that makes me sweat a whole lot. I lose a lot of liquids then and need more then just water sometimes. :)

So its not so tasty eh?!

Isn't that the stuff that Tiger Woods is promoting? Thus the name Tiger.....

I said that b/c if I were to go running 5 miles in the summer, I shouldn't actually need an electrolyte replacement beverage. Proper diet before and after and water during should be enough to keep me healthy. Therefore, I don't see how golfing (The Tiger connection) would require an electrolyte replacement. Now, if I did conditioning or training camps for 8-10 hours a day? Hell yea, then you need a beverage like that when you can't really eat enough during. Additionally, have you noticed that a lot of those sports drinks contain artificial sweetners? They don't even provide the simple carbs for energy conversion!
(so can you tell I don't see a need for sports drinks for mainstream consumers?)
After a good workout, chocolate milk is actually a really good choice due to the balance of water, protein, sugars, fats, and salt. But not before or during...and it can be hard to keep cold if working outside - so take some aseptic chocolate milk! ;) (what? noooo...really? The company I work for produces aseptic chocolate milk (and soy milk, and regular milk)? Nooo! oh, ok, it does.) :)
