Fun stuff

So, this weekend was pretty fun, despite being busy. It certainly wasn't long enough, and wouldn't have been even if we hadn't lost the hour.

Friday night we had dinner and drinks with a couple that we met in January at a No Kidding! event - turned out they live right around the corner from us, and we finally got a chance to hang out this weekend. I'm happy that we now have some friends that we've met outside of German club and any of our musical groups, and they're really cool people. We went to a bar right around the corner from our house, which turned out to be way expensive for dinner but now we know, and ended up hanging out until the place closed at midnight.

Funny note on the end of the evening: on the way home I wanted to stop at Wendy's for my normal small vanilla Frosty and was hoping these people wouldn't think I was nuts because I was pulling into the Wendy's after having had a rather large dinner and lots of beer. Well, we ended up pulling up right behind them in the drive thru - he got a Frosty as well, and she got some fries. While they were paying and getting their food she jumped out of the passenger seat and ran back and talked to us for a second. We all got a great laugh out of it. :-)

Saturday night we went to a Chicago Storm game to cheer on their fabulous Head Athletic Trainer. We had a nice time, and the game was actually very exciting. For anyone who thinks soccer is boring, trust me that indoor soccer is really a lot more fun - there are four 15-minute quarters, and the field is much smaller and only has 5 guys at a time (+ a goalie), and goals count for 2 or 3 points depending on how far away the player is when he scores, kind of like basketball. The pace is a lot quicker, too.

The Storm won, with the game-winning goal coming in the last minute of the game. For the player who scored, it was his first MISL goal, which was cool. We happened to be sitting a couple of rows behind his parents, who were ecstatic. Funny note on that - his mom had a poster that said, "Let's go Storm! Go #6!" It was a very nice poster, but she must've used a lot of magic marker because I was getting high off of the fumes by the end of first quarter.

One last note on the game - the national anthem singer was horrible! The opposing team was from Mexico, so she sang that anthem first - I'd never heard it before (and Trey said afterwards that I still haven't) but I could not pick out any kind of melody and it sounded like she changed keys about 5 times. When she started the American anthem I couldn't take it anymore and just started cracking up. I felt incredibly disrespectful, but I totally couldn't help it!

I know there was something else I wanted to mention, but I can't remember it now - I wrote this post 4 hours ago, hoping I'd remember at some point. If I do, I'll post again later... Happy Monday. :-)

Sounds like a fun weekend. Glad to know that Tony is doing well and indoor soccer totally ROCKS! :-)

At least you'll know what to serve for dessert when they come to your place for dinner. :-) Frosty's all around!

I love that both you and the other couple stopped at Wendy's! Too funny!!

I play indoor soccer and it is LOTS of fun--not to mention quite the workout. I have never scored a 2 pointer, but hopefully one day ;)

Not only do I think it's great that you were behind them in the drive through, but I love that they jumped out to chat - kinda shows that they really enjoyed spending the time with you, too, rather than just waving....

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who gets a laugh out of bad anthem singing. I try hard, but even a non-musically trained person like myself finds it amusing. To the guys credit the Mexican anthem is hard to sing, especially sober.

I won't go so far as to say indoor soccer is fun, but I did have a good time at the game. I give credit to the company I keep at those things... :)

Dude, that's beautiful. You went to a sporting event to cheer on the head trainer! (I get that he's your brother and all). Still funny to think about...
