This weekend was a good one - lots of fun at the Music Box Theater's annual Christmas show. I got to sing with a different quartet each day, but each group was really great...it's always such a treat to sing with a good quartet, something I'll get to do for the rest of today and tomorrow as well. :-)
Anyway, the weekend was a goofy one, as the annual show brings out the people who get all in to Christmas. I think next year I'll have to get some antlers, or make a necklace out of Christmas lights or something so I can be a little more festive. I did actually sit in the theater and watch "White Christmas" with the crowd...as fun as the movie normally is, it's even better when people cheer and make funny comments the whole time.
There was a slight bah, humbug moment last night right before our last show, which stemmed from the parody on "The 12 Days of Christmas" our Santa did this year. Here's the rundown of his parody, which you sort of need in order to appreciate the rest of the story... many are Chicago specific, so I'll try to comment a bit on those in [ ].
On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me
(12) ALL THE TROOPS COMING HOME
(11) No one on a cell phone
(10) No more Brittney dads
(9) No more "Wicked" ads [we have TONS of these]
(8) Less CTA debates [the El - big public transport issues at the moment]
(7) Lower heating rates [big issue around here]
(6) Fewer candidates
(5) NO MORE GEORGE BUSH
(4) A credit card unmaxed
(3) No more property tax [major issue in city council these days]
(2) Two Bear quarterbacks [they've been sucking this year]
(1) and a pennant win for the Cubbies
So, you can tell Santa put a big of a liberal spin on his parody...well, while we're caroling before the last show, some old lady comes up to us and starts going off on how she's been coming to the Christmas show for 12 years and that this year the liberals have ruined it for her, and she's conservative and there are conservatives in Chicago too, and then she added that she can't stand Hillary Clinton, and she just thinks the whole thing was terrible, and on and on. WTF? Way to yell at the Christmas carolers.
I calmly told her that I was sorry she didn't enjoy the show, but that we didn't write the parody and that I'd pass her comments on to the management...she kept going off on us. Whatever. She eventually stopped and walked away to chew out the next person she saw. After she walked off the other patrons in the area started laughing, which the 4 of us did for the rest of the night. Trey happened to be there at the time as well, and he pointed out that this lady's husband had toilet paper stuck to both of his shoes. :-)
Ok, enough for now - Merry Christmas everyone!

I thought the 12 days of christmas remix was funny!
I was at the show on Saturday, and everyone WENT WILD when we sang that NO MORE GEORGE BUSH verse!! It was awesome! And thanks to you (and the other quartet members) for giving us the gift of such a great performance, as well!
the season is about having fun and if you can't appreciat a little twist... geesh!
At least you were able to respond in an appropriate fashion. The beauty of our country is that not only do we have the freedom to speak our minds, but we also have the freedom to celebrate our religious beliefs without being persecuted.
That old lady needed some egg nog. :)
