Why it's good to be sick...

Since I rarely get sick, I hate even being stuffed up at all. I have discovered, though, that there is an advantage to being a little under the weather – for the past 4 or 5 nights in a row I’ve slept almost completely through the night. I’ve gotten up about once a night to go to the bathroom/get a drink, but that’s it. As a result, I’ve woken up really refreshed for the past few mornings – of course I’m tired again by 9am, but I guess if I didn’t get up at 5:30 that wouldn’t happen quite as soon. I guess the past year or two things have been so nuts that there are usually 3 or 4 nights a week that I’m up for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night, but I never really thought about it until now.

Another good thing about being sick is realizing how much better you feel when you start to clear up. I haven’t done any singing since Sunday, but I think I’ll go practice at lunch today – I have a feeling it’ll be much better than it was over the weekend. Tomorrow is CCC’s recording session at WBEZ (Chicago's Public Radio station), with a regular rehearsal to follow, and the weekend is packed with music again so I have to make sure I’m up for lots more singing.

Other than that, I got to go see the opening night of the world premiere of Frank’s Home at the Goodman – Laura’s husband Scott always gets tickets because he’s the production director, but never sits in his own seat so she always brings a date. It was great to have dinner with Laura – we don’t get together often enough – and the play was really good. It makes me want to learn more about the personal life of Frank Lloyd Wright. Maybe I’ll put a bio of him on my reading list…

Anyway, have a good one!

I always sleep like a rock when I'm sick, which is definately different than my normal sleeping patterns.....which suck!

Glad you are starting to feel better, good luck with all your singing this weekend!

My favorite part is the 5 glorious minutes when you can breathe out of both nostrils at the same time when you're on medication. It doesn't last long, but it's sweet heaven while it does....

Haha, and the ecstatic thought of "I can breathe!!!" that goes along with it!

i'm jealous that you get to record at WBEZ. I'm a huge "this American life" fan! HUGE!

I'm with Lisa and Sarah on the "I can breathe" revalation! Since I have continuous nasal problems (especially when sick) being able to breathe right is a glorious moment. You can almost hear the angels singing!

yeah, that breathing moment is amazing. i also like the moment it clicks that you realize you haven't had a headache or bodyache all day and you think "this could be it! over the peak!"

feel ALL better soon, vik

Ok so I will comment on FLW. A bio is a good thing, I had to read more than one book/essay on FLW. I really can't give you a good recommendation, they all sucked. He has a very percular and intresting bio.
