Trey will have a field day with this one, I’m sure…
Many of my coworkers are sick – ‘tis the season! One of them, who sits near me, is one of those people who likes to shop at Whole Foods, who probably takes their own bags to the grocery store, etc. That kind of thing, I totally get. Extending it to include pharmaceuticals, I do not, especially when the homeopathic medicine doesn’t seem to work.
Last week Thursday I was sneezing a lot, coughing a little, blowing my nose, etc. I took some Sudafed and by the weekend things felt much better, besides which my symptoms were not nearly as apparent to the outside world. By Tuesday night I felt pretty much back to normal, save a few coughs here and there, and the need to still take a Sudafed once or twice a day, which should stop by tomorrow or Saturday.
This other person at work came in yesterday sneezing, very runny nose, sniffles, etc., blew their nose all day and kept apologizing for it and all of that. Last night this person got lots of sleep and so things are a little better today, but it’s much of the same as yesterday. I offered Sudafed and this person told me they were taking a homeopathic medicine – my first reaction was, “no wonder it’s not working!” I feel bad about writing this, too because I love this person so I feel terrible for them, but jeeze, use some real medicine!

My m-i-l is all about those home drugs and she tries to convince Kendall that he should suggest them to his patients. He just smiles and nods and keeps writing the scripts....=)
I agree with both you and Kendall.
I watched an ER episode that was about this woman who had HIV and didn't take any meds because she believed that polution was the real cause of illness. Her child died of AIDS because she refused meds...how do people get this way? I realize this was a show but some part of it has to have happened to give people the idea....
That's just crazy.....bring on the drugs baby!
that ER show was taken from a real case i read about. that kind of crap happens all the time.
i agree about the "real drugs". those companies make billions for a reason - thier products WORK.
Hippie meds don't work.
Trey, that comment is disappointing after Viki's build up of "Trey's going to have a field day with this." I was expecting something more lively!
Yeah, I figured he'd do some hippie bashing!
I'm on the opposite side as y'all. The difference is "hippie" meds work to cure the ailment, thus taking time for the symptoms to go away while modern meds mask the symptoms (thus making it SEEM like they're working-notice how you feel crappy again before your next dose?)and many do not actually cure the real problem (read the directions, they don't even hide that). Those symptoms are your body's way of eliminating the "POLUTANTS" from your body. Hot tea with honey and ginger greatly helps minor head and chest ailments. And eating right and keeping healthy habits substantially reduces the risks of getting sick to begin with. Fortunately I have never been put in the situation of serious health issues as I don't know what I would do. It would probably be a combo, honestly.
PS against all that, I'm a wimp when it comes to pain. i.e. if I ever have children I will be drugged.
I am not a fan of freely taking medicine either. I have family and friends who will take an asprin when they think they MAY get a headache. I slow to take medicine till I am sure my body needs the 'boost' I think medicine gives. If I can sleep off the headache I will. If I can sleep off the fever I will. If I wake up with a fever, I am reaching for the tylenol. I think it is a balance.
