Damn! Damn! Damn!

I forgot to tape ER & Gray's Anatomy last night - does anyone know if you can watch them via the web?

Now, on to my revelation about the stupid girl at work - I’ve learned that she’s never, ever, ever had a job before, not even a part time one in college or high school. Apparently, her parents wanted her to focus on her studies, something that I think is admirable but does not make for a particularly worldly individual. For anyone else who didn’t have a job during their educational years, sorry but I’ve known people in this situation who have been very bright but still don’t have the real world experience it’s often helpful to have. In any case, this girl is not even one of those people, as she tends to cross the line into airheadedness almost all of the time.

This never having had a job explains a lot of the pestering she does. I think it takes most people a little bit of time to learn that one has to be able to work independently and without much direction – how many times have you gotten incredibly vague directions from your boss and been worried that your end product was not at all what s/he was thinking? It also explains the constant questions on working in general – how to fill in her timesheets, health insurance, etc. While I don’t remember ever asking as many questions as this girl does, she just may be a lot more insecure than I was.

Even the not ever having had a job thing, however, does not explain her immaturity – she’s beginning to remind me of someone who’s trying to hard to seem popular, something I realized early on just wasn’t worth it, and something that does not work well in the professional world in my opinion.

Anyway, enough about that. This girl’s still annoying, but I’ll give her a little more leeway because of this new knowledge. Oh, wow. As I was finishing up writing this, I overheard one of the principals complaining about this girl – apparently she doesn’t know how to read a map – they had to postpone a major presentation because of this - not good if you work anywhere, let alone an architectural firm that does civic design.

Geeze. I hope my Nephew Joe doesn't turn out like this. His parents don't want him having a job either so he can focus on his sports and studies. Ugh... I only wish that had been me.

Wow! That is almost unbelievable to me! I guess I can understand the logic behind it, but what about summers?!?! I worked every summer from the time I was 14, and sometimes during the school year as well! I guess some people don't understand the importance of work experience.

Whew! You can watch Grey's Anatomy online, and Kristin DVRed ER. Thank you!

Sarah, I wouldn't worry too much about your brother - sports will probably give him social skills, and he will have to learn to manage his time better. I should learn more about this girl, but I get the impression she didn't do much else...

agreed with sarah - summers are for earning money and working like everyone else!

I think everyone should have a summer job, if nothing else to prevent the never worked before syndrome.
