Easy day

So, today I got to work from home in the morning before heading out to an afternoon meeting. This was especially nice for several reasons:
  1. I didn't have to deal with the dumb girl at work, who, by the way, I have recently gained new information on
  2. Trey and I went to the opera last night and got home really late - 12:45 is pretty late for me if it's a work night
  3. it meant that instead of jumping out of bed and shocking my body into working out right away, I got to move around for a couple of hours before going running
  4. since I have a rehearsal in Evanston (about 50 minutes due east of Palatine) tonight at 7pm, it didn't mean I totally had to rearrange my morning or after work routine to catch alternate trains, or drive to work which would mean sitting on the expressway for 3 hours and paying way too much to park my car all day, in order to put in a day at the office and get to rehearsal on time - I guess while public transportation's great almost all of the time in this city, it can be limiting once in a while
The opera last night was great - Andrea Gruber, who played the title role in Turandot, has never been my favorite soprano in terms of tone/vocal color, but she's amazing none the less. You really have to be like the Incredible Hulk to do that role and she was just absolutely captivating. The audience still gave Patricia Racette, who played the supporting role of Liu, A LOT more applause so you had to feel bad though. The more minimalist sets, which I'm usually not a fan of, worked incredibly well and really helped to heighten the dramatic effect of the whole thing. Oh, and the tenor was great, although he really didn't milk the Nessun Dorma nearly as much as he could've.

Other than that - last weekend was nice aside from Kristin's mishap (and I didn't hang out with her at my mom's when she got back because I thought she wanted to be by herself, thank you very much). Monday night Trey and I finally got to watch the first two ERs of the season - since we both have Thursday night rehearsals we have to catch up some other time - and listened to the incredible storm that was rolling through here (we got some hail!). Tonight is rehearsal for the Brahms Requiem I'm taking part in this Sunday - let's hope this group's German has gotten better since last time I went!

Later!

Ok so honestly your whole paragraph on the opera was in greek to me. I am still trying to figure out if "Nessun Dorma" is a song or a opera style :)

Come on dish the dirt.

I love you guys. :-)

J - Nessun Dorma is one of those arias that you've heard before - it's been used in movies/commercials and that sort of thing. Next time T and I are in town we'll have to do some kind of operatic concert - I promise you'll like it. :-)

Sarah - you know Andrea Chenoweth is in Cleveland now? I read about her in the UD Quarterly. I want to say she's done stuff with the symphony there. Now I want to do a trip to Cleveland!

Really!?! I didn't know that! I will have to do some checking and find out when she's performing so I can check her out. Yay, come to Cleveland!
