So, this week things start getting really busy for me again. I started rehearsals with Chicago Chamber Singers last night (great group!), Wednesday I did a wine tasting at Trey’s store and for the next month of Wednesdays I’ll have Brahms Requiem rehearsals, and weekends are booked through the end of September and for most of the fall. Don’t think I’m complaining, though – most of what I’m doing is singing related so I’m thrilled. : - )
Something I noticed, however, was that this weekend I actually got off my butt and did some cleaning. I have to make up 2 days of work this time period because of Labor Day and some other things, so I spent a few hours on Saturday doing DLK stuff. You’d figure that for the rest of the day I’d sit around. Nope! I cleaned both bathrooms and did some straightening up besides. The few nights I was home last week I also actually did a little bit of straightening up rather than just coming home and plopping down on the couch, and Tuesday night after work I did all of our laundry and a few other things around the apartment.
So I got to thinking…when Trey and I had rehearsal for Pirates every night, my house was relatively neat and clean. After the show ended, when I had more time to clean, I did only the bare minimum to maintain the low end of my standard of cleanliness, and actually started to feel bad because I felt like Trey was doing more housework than I was.
I think my conclusion is that the busier I get, the cleaner I tend to keep my house day to day. Is this strange or do the rest of you find this is the case?
On a different note, the other night I got to go to a wine tasting at Trey’s Binny’s. I loved the Sauvignon Blanc – wonderfully creamy and rich, which is unique for this grape, but still with the citrus & acidity that it should’ve had – but for the most part the reds were a little disappointing. I’m wondering if they’d be better a) having been opened for a few more hours, or b) in a few years. We got to take the merlot home, so we can try it in a few days and see.
That’s all for now - I'll try to write some more tomorrow morning, but this weekend is Labor Day weekend, which = Donau fest baby!

i crack up when you say/write "baby" because i think non-rockstars saying it is out of the norm and because you always say it so enthusiastically. :)
I think the busier you are the less you are at home so the house seems cleaner and neater. I know being home all these months... our place has not been the neatest.
I find that I clean more when I am stressed because it is one thing I can control....
I've always found the more I have going on, the more efficient I am. This three day weekend was supposed to be about cleaning and laundry and was anything but, so I think when I have less time, I use my time more wisely.

I agree with you and H. When I have a ton of things to get done in one night, I get them all done, but when I have just one or two things to do, I usually put them off till the next day, or the next...It's an aweful thing.
I agree with the not being home thing. When you are home less, you have less time to dirty up the place. I have to brag on how clean we kept the house this weekend while E was here. It was mostly due to Holly's inspiration to put the dishes away immediately. It does wonders! :-)
Kilroy was here!
