It’s been such a wonderful week – sorry not to have been blogging more. I’ve really been missing it.
Last night I sang an audition for Chicago Chamber Choir – did so purely to find out more about them – a group of 32 singers that does 3 major concerts a year and several smaller ones. I got a good impression from their website, and everyone there seemed very nice. Turns out that it’s not paid, but that they do get outside gigs for which the singers are paid, and I’m guessing it will lead to other things anyway. I think the director and asst director were impressed with my Messiah piece and my kick ass sight reading (I even did the German piece in German right away) – they asked immediately about my Thursday night availability for callbacks, and said that my not being able to be there (Pirates) didn’t mean I wouldn’t get one of the 2-3 soprano spots they have open. I should hear within a couple of weeks, but even if I don’t make it I feel great! There’s nothing like really kicking some butt at an audition.
Shows this weekend went very well. As usual, there were plenty of things that I could’ve done better, which it what I told Trey when he told me I sounded incredible Saturday night. Then he reiterated it. The good part about that is that I really don’t think he blowing smoke, because he wouldn’t give such a high musical compliment if it weren’t warranted. The music director of the show also told me I was phenomenal. Hooray!
Even better, we really did have our own cheering squad Saturday night. How fun that so many people came – mom (Evi) & John, mom (Christi) & Tim, Trey’s grandmother, her best friend, best friend’s brother and family, the Toths, the Hauers, Kristin, and Armand, our special surprize! Afterwards was Lou Malnati’s and the next day was church, another show, and Ravinia. J
Funny thing about Kristin – so, Thursday night I got a bunch of flowers but had to take them to work because the cats will eat them if I take them home. Saturday night, in lieu of flowers, Kristin put together a veggie/salad basket. It was the sweetest thing – I’d run out of produce on Thursday, and wasn’t going to get to the store until tonight. She’s kept me going and not having to buy salads that are inferior to my own for lunch! Thank you!
Some random stuff:
1-I saw a shirt the other day that I think could be considered the epitome of pop culture. It said “Your Space Sucks.” I laughed my butt off.
2-My fellow Metra-riders and I are always upset when we see people running across the tracks, cutting it way too close, as the train is pulling in to a station. It can get really disturbing, and all of us are usually pissed if the conductors don’t catch whoever it was and stop him/her from getting on. Last night I took a late train after my audition, and at one stop some guy did just that, except that he cut it even closer – the conductor apparently had to put on the emergency brakes and missed him by mere inches. They didn’t let him on, and there were two announcements about how Metra does not let suicidal people on the train. Yes, that late at night if you miss the train it’s on hour until the next one, but wouldn’t you rather be alive and an hour late?
Ok, enough for now. I will do my best to post again before Saturday, but no promises…
Oh, wait, my boss just stopped by my desk and told me that I’m doing a better job than Nate did – when I got here everyone was half-serious when they joked around about how I had some big shoes to fill. Hooray for me!

That is an awesome compliment!!! I'm glad they are appreciating you at work.
Sounds like Pirates is a huge success! I wish I could have been there this past weekend, I was out of town. Hopefully I will make it this coming weekend!
Getting into the choir would be great fun!!!
My sister may still be looking for a soloist for her wedding in cincinnati if you don't mind traveling. Her name is Nikki and she has a blog that you can get to from mine...just a thought.
I'm soo glad you are having a good week!!
What a creative gift for Kristin to give you! I love it when people do things like that, something out of the ordinary!
That's so crazy that people jump in front of trains!
Hooray for you is right!! You definitely are a great Mabel and you look beautiful onstage as well.
Good luck on the Chicago Chamber Choir! I missed the auditions but have been trying to find some sort of choral group to join. Now I'm in yet another production of "Pirates," so I have "missed the opportunity" for a while.
See you tomorrow night!

Jen J - when is your sister's wedding? If I can make that weekend and she'll pay for my hotel and gas I'd be happy to come out. My guess is, though, that there are some fantastic singers around Cinci, though. :-)
I actually got the idea for a veggie basket when you were talking to me wednesday night about how you haven't been able to get to the grocery store in a while!!! plus i figured the salad guru you are, you'de enjoy the salad more than flowers!!! :)
Wonderful about everything happening in your life. You sound super busy, but loving life which is totally awesome!
I'm so glad that your show is going well. We wish we could have come. Glad that you are so busy and so happy!
