Funny things at work

This is mostly for the benefit of Sarah W, who currently has a little more time on her hands than normal – I’m sure that will change after a) she aces her interview Monday and starts a new job and b) she has her baby in September!

A few funny things from work today:

Remember the cockroach in the toilet story? Well, today there was a great big one hanging on the crown-molding up by the ceiling. This was at about 2pm, however (right after I had lunch – yum!), and I didn’t think cockroaches generally hung out in broad daylight. I went back to check on him a little later and he’d crawled in between the crown molding and the wall/ceiling, apparently trying to hide…I could see his little feet hanging out. Oh, the joys of working in an old building.

Something else funny in the bathroom – the wiring is a little old as well, so sometimes when you go to turn off a light, the light switch goes down but the light doesn’t turn off. Quirky.

And finally, remember R, the guy from my first week who kind of talked down to me like I was a moron, then later determined I was OK because I refilled the soap in the bathroom? Well, this week DLK got hit with a huge project because a major client of ours is being audited and doesn’t have their records straight; as a result, R and I are having to work together a lot. I wanted to kill him earlier because his communication style is very difficult for me (and everyone else around here) to accommodate. But, I was patient and dealt with it because a) there’s probably something deep down that causes him to be so difficult and there’s probably something painful for him behind that, and b) we’re billing this client for all of the time I’m spending on this so they’re paying my salary this week.

Well, later this afternoon he stopped me in the kitchen and told me how nice it’s been to work with me since I started here, and that I’m really good at working with people with very different communication styles, and that I have a great personality and sense of humor, both of which fit in well here, and he just kept going on and on and on. I just have to remember that moment the next time I’m ready to strangle him!

Ok, that’s all for now, and probably for a while. I’m working all day tomorrow so I can take Tuesday off to spend with Nicky & Joey (my NC cousins) and Sunday Trey and I need to get our apartment set so when his mom visits in July it’s not still a wreck. Don’t harass me if I don’t write again until Monday or Tuesday-and hope that I get the night off next Tuesday, too!
