The best and the worst of the first week

Just a few work related things for this post...

The most annoying thing about my office so far is a co-worker I’ll just call “R.” I think R seems to think I have less than half a brain because earlier today he tried to give me suggestions on how to prioritize – not how to prioritize certain tasks, but how to prioritize in general. He needed help on a certain project, so I asked him what time he’d like me to meet with him. Instead of giving me a time, or indicating how long the task might take, he said something like, “maybe you can figure out what things you have to get done today, and then figure out how much time they’ll take, and then, when those are done and you have the rest of the afternoon, say, after lunch, we can get together and you can back me up.” What the hell is that? Because this is only my first week here I’m going to let it slide. If it goes on for more than a month I’m going to tell him flat out that for the past 2 years I’ve been balancing 2 jobs and a master’s degree program and have been very successful therefore I know how to manage my time. Moron.

Other than that, the work itself is also a little annoying/boring, as is dealing with stupid people at other agencies, but the office environment is great and the building is very old and cool. For anyone not familiar with the Fine Arts building at 410 S. Michigan Ave., it's a very historic old building. One of the neatest things about it is that it still has really old elevators (the ones that require and operator aaccordionhe accordian things that go across the doors, only the don't close those duriapparentlyek aparently). Every morning I step in and say "4 please" and the guy stops it on the 4th floor. :-)

Something else cool is that I've also gotten a referral for a voice teacher in the building from a guy who lives in Chicago but would do stuff at the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee from time to time. Hopefully I can contact her over the weekend and get something started up again within the next couple of weeks!

PS - Everyone has to go read Kristin's latest blog post. Her writing about coupons is exactly why I love her so much.

That's cool about the elevator. I didn't think thos types really exhisted in working condition anymore.

Hooray for finding a teacher. :-D

Sometimes that happens and you can't help it, though...plus, she's pregnant so you have to forgive her. :-)
