Here's something funny – I broke my foot last night. Trey and I went on the Liberty outing to a winery and as we were walking back to the car I mis-stepped, probably because the sidewalk was really uneven and fully of little sidewalk potholes (I’m not going to miss Italian sidewalks or roads!). Trey actually had to help me back to the car, and this morning I still couldn’t walk on it, so off we went to the hospital. I have to go back this week so they can determine exactly what kind of fracture it is, but I'm in a pseudo cast right now and am in need of crutches.

What's even funnier, that I was freaking out about earlier this morning, is that we won't have health insurance in a month. I have to call Tricare - the military's health insurance system - this afternoon to ask about the possibility of purchasing coverage for a couple of months. I'm sure that people who've been transitioning out of the military have been in this type of situation before.

Ok, enough with sounding depressing. I'm already rigging up ways for me to not need help. I bought a new purse that wouldn't interfere with the crutches, and (I'm sure Trey's laughing at me for this) I have already started carrying a backpack around the house. Then I found some reasons to look on the bright side:

  • From Trey: "Well, now we'll be able to board the airplanes first." :-) He's so good at making me laugh, especially when I'm feeling crummy
  • It looks like I might have some job interviews lined up for the first week I'm back in Chicago - I figure that if I go to a job interview with crutches and still have a really positive attitude, it will say a lot about how wonderful I am!
  • While I initially thought that I'd get fat, going from working out 5 times a week to not at all, I think that if I stay active I'll be Ok. Using these crutches has to be pretty good for burning calories.

So, that'll be all for now. Send good wishes my way and maybe it'll turn out that this is the type of fracture that heals in 4-6 weeks instead of 12 weeks or more...

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the foot! This must be the week or doing that...Kendall's dad broke his toe (they initially thought it was his foot) earlier this week! Hopefully it will heal fast! And Trey's right, you'll be able to board easier!
