Vacation blog - days 1 & 2

We're in Vienna - hooray!!! Since we're on vacation, and since at least some of our hotels have free Wifi, I'm going to try to blog a little every day. No guarantees, but I'll try.

Our day and a half en route was pretty uneventful, which is always good. Highlights of the journey included Trey's getting stopped while practicing in Heathrow airport by a man who asked him, "excuse me, but do you happen to know the name of that brass instrument that wraps around your body?" We also had a traditional English breakfast - well, Trey did. I had scrambled eggs with toast and lox instead. :-)

Our connecting flight from London to Vienna ended up taking off a half an hour late, but that still got us to our hotel with plenty of time to check in, relax, and freshen up a little before we met some friends for a few glasses of wine and dinner. Recognize them?

I'm sure Katrin will have more pictures - her camera's actually pretty professional - but there's a quick one for now. :-)

Tomorrow we're planning on just bumming around the city a little. We'll walk around the old part of the city, go to the Naschmarkt, and pick up our opera ticksets. I'll also have to post some pictures of our shower. It's actually a glass box in the middle of the room, rather than your standard shower in a bathroom. I'd heard about this after I booked it, and was intrigued. It's cool, but I'm glad the person I'm sharing the room with has seen me naked before.

I'll sign off in a second so I can have the mint gummi bears left on my pillow and go to bed - sleeping did not go well for either one of us on the plane last night, so we're each operating on about 2 hours of sleep - but I'll leave you with a picture of a poster we saw upon stepping out of our hotel this evening. First person to figure out why we thought it was so funny wins a prize!

i too think it's great you met Katrin. You need to be featured on the blogger home page or something.

What language did you converse in over dinner?

I too would love to know what language you conversed in. And am guessing it's the "shitload" that made you laugh. Cause I did!

Ok, so we did converse in English - Trey and I felt like we were cheating, but I'm sure it was less painful for everyone that way. :-)

and Beth wins the prize!
