Anyone who reads Karen's blog knows that I was out in Cinci for the weekend, being obnoxious at the Reds game in my Cubs hat. Thanks again to Karen & Jim for letting me show up and crash at their house, do Tae-bo in the living room, and lounge around on the couch the rest of the time. I had a lot of fun babysitting Nicole as well - what a bright and well-mannered child.
The added bonus of my trip out was that I came back to Chicago with several cans of Skyline, something I have been craving for months. Dinner at my house tonight will be Chili Spaghetti, 4-way! :-)
Switching gears a little, some of you know that Trey lost his job a couple of weeks ago. After a bit of the initial normal reactions associated with that type of thing, we talked it out and decided (ok, I need to give my self credit for this one - "we decided" should read "I pointed out") that there's a silver lining: Trey's been trying to figure out how to work in a music master's degree while working the normal 9-5 schedule. Bingo! Now he can finish in the 2 normal years instead of taking 3 or 4...and by then I'll be ready to do one myself, provided the route I think I want to go right now is still the route I want to go at that point.
Now, since we do have a mortgage to pay Trey does still have to work, but after sending out some applications he got set-up with a couple of different part-time jobs. One is a company he's worked for in recent years and a job he was recently saying he missed (and that might go full time), and the other is at a local aquarium store. Each is only about 10 minutes from our house, which means commuting costs will be way down. It all came together nicely by the end of the work day yesterday, so by the time I got back to Chicago I was able to completely relax with a glass of wine on the couch.
This morning I was really wishing I had more vacation so I could've taken the whole week off, but I did see something fun because I came to work today: I spotted Bullseye, the Target dog, (ha! spotted the dog!) on my walk in. You know, the little white one with the red bullseye over his one eye? Someone was walking him along Wacker drive, crossing Michigan Avenue as I passed him. He had a little red collar with rhinestone bullseyes on it. Random.
