I thought I'd take a moment today to highlight another fun thing about Chicago. This is something recently featured on the Travel Channel's Samantha Brown's Great Weekends program (the current picture on the show's homepage is Samantha bicycling around Chicago - looks like she's at an intersection along Washington, between Dearborn & LaSalle) which I took advantage of yesterday afternoon: the Crown Fountain in Millennium Park (I actually didn't know the fountain's name until I looked it up just now).
Here's a shot of Millennium Park - the Crown Fountain is near the bottom. The northern column is the face you see "spitting" water.
Yesterday I went out for my lunchtime walk with no set path, but I ended up walking south on Columbus boarding the east side of the park. When I got down to Monroe rather than continue & walk past the new wing of the Art Institute I decided to walk around the park instead. Now yesterday was a pretty warm & muggy day, and by the time I got to the fountain I'd been walking for about 20 minutes at a pretty quick pace. I looked at all of the people walking around in between the columns, and for the first time ever had the urge to take off my shoes and do it myself. I checked my watch to make sure I had a few minutes, and did, so I went for it.
When I was a kid I always wanted to work downtown, and even though the commute is really long and totally sucks in the winter, I still love working downtown. :-)
