Chicago smells

So, one of the things I miss about my former place of employment is the variety of aromas on my walk from the train station to the office. I'd walk past the Berghoff and most days of the week they'd be preparing something, and then there was the Garrett Popcorn shop at Jackson & State. I know I've mentioned that I could stand outside of Garrett's and just inhale all day.

Nowadays, my normal route to work is walking along Wacker Drive as the river is always nice to look at, and now that it's summer there are flowers and other foliage in the planter boxes. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I decided that I was going to try to walk along slightly different routes, depending on how the traffic lights were changing. This morning's walk was perfect!

I ended up walking along Randolph all the way from the train station to Michigan Avenue, and there happens to be a Garrett's at Randolph & Dearborn. Friday I walked that route but I didn't catch a whiff until I was just outside of the shop. Today, however, I could smell it from a block & a half away - maybe they had a run on popcorn over the weekend so they have to make extra this morning. Yum, yum, yum! Even better, once I passed the shop I could smell chocolate chip cookies baking for another block or so. What a nice way to start a week. :-)

Have a great week!

I like this post! When I saw the title, my preconceive notions were torn between either yucky smells or good aromas. I'm glad it was the latter. :) Mmmmm. popcorn and cookies.
I'm glad you found a route that gets you by some yummy aromas!
You like to throw out that you walk down Wacker drive just so you can make me chuckle in my cubicle, don't you?

I love the smell from the Chocolate Factory near the train station on a chilly overcast day - I swear they pump the smell out of the smoke stacks on purpose. ;-)

I love the smell of popcorn. Often more than I like the taste, which is kind of odd.

When I read your title my nose immediately scrunched up, as in "Chicago smells... it needs a bath"

What an interesint observation! It is however ironic that the name "Chicago" is said to be derived from an Indian word that translates to stinky onion or skunk.....
