Guys - you've been warned. If you don't want to know about inner workings of your females, this is your cue to stop reading. Since Trey hasn't blogged in several months and will soon be de-listed, I don't think I have to worry about him reading this either, which is good because I read once that one of the things you really don't want to discuss with your husband, or have him witness, is your hair removal.
Now, I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way, but I feel like my arms are excessively hairy. It never bothered me that much until a few years ago - probably when we moved to Italy and I started wearing short-sleeved shirts and tank tops more frequently. Over there, however, I realized that if I got a tan it was better as it lightened up and wasn't as noticable. Nowadays I don't spend much time outside so it's darker, which does bother me quite a bit.
Since it has been bothering me more and more, and since recently found an arm hair that was two inches long (no, I'm not kidding), I'm feeling more and more like I want to do something about it. This has not reached the need category, especially since living in Chicago I can wear long-sleeves for most of the year, but I think getting rid of it would make me feel less self-conscious over the summer. I don't want to do anything permenant like lazer or electrolisis, as a) it's cost prohibitive, and b) I think it still needs a few more years before we know it's completely safe.
My big questions are 1) am I just a moron who should shut up and stop worrying about something stupid like this? and 2) if not, has anyone else had experience with waxing for this kind of situation?

I knew a girl in high school or shaved her arms...but i think that would just make the problem worse in the long run plus you'd have to worry about razor burn....
instead of hair removal, what about a bleaching cream to just lighten the hair? or a product like nair, (if you're not sensitive to it), to remove it that way?
I think it is safe to say that I do not have experience with waxing arms!
My OB's office consults on stuff like this so I would talk to them or seek out professional advice. I don't know if I would shave or wax because my guess is that it will come back even worse. Good luck.
Well, I don't feel quite as nuts now... I don't want to bleach - then I'd just have hairy blonde arms instead of hairy light brown arms. I've read it comes back worse shaving, but waxing actually helps to make it less severe - just wondering if anyone had personal experience.
There were lots of women in Bangladesh who shaved or waxed their arms....unfortunately I was pretty young and don't remember much of the details.
I would agree with you about the bleaching though. What about a depilatory?
I love you just the way you are.
Love,
Mom
Take pictures to show what "hairy arms" really are!
I agree with depilatory (or whatever Nair is). And bleaching, actually (blonde hair is less noticeable, though not invisible, compared to even light brown hair).
Do whatever makes YOU feel comfortable. They also have that stuff where you essentially buff it off and makes your skin really soft? I haven't tried it - may not 100% eliminated it, but it may be more than enough of what you need...just a though. Waxing might make your skin shiny for a couple days each time you do it, or leave it prone to irritation? I'm not sure, just a thought.
PS, I'm joking about the photo request above. :)
OK, in 10 years of friendship i've never noticed your having hairy arms.
Bleaching doesn't stop the volume issue but i can assure you that the theory of shaving/waxing making it come back worse is total myth. Take this from someone who's shaved their entire body for swimming several times and has never once had a back hair.
Plucking is out of hte question for pain and time reasons.
My OB too has a skin thing (what is it with that??) so perhaps checking there might help.
Somehow threading might be a solution....
I just checked to see if I had any long hairs on my arms. I couldn't find any. I once shaved my arms when I was a kid because I thought woman shaved their whole bodies. My arm hair isn't excessive, but it is a mix of blond and light brown so maybe its not as noticable.
Good luck!
I'm with Karen, I don't think I've ever noticed your hairy arms. And I know lots of people who get rid of their arm hair because it bugs them. I would go with Sarah and probably try to dilapitory cream. Have you tried Googling it?
