I know I've mentioned that I love Metra for several reasons:
-because it's nice that my commute can be spent reading, putting on make-up, playing Sudoku, or taking a nap rather than irritated at what other drivers are doing for 3+ hours a day
-that I'm glad I'm not putting 80+ miles on my car every day, and burning up all of the gas that goes with it
-that I'm glad my train station is just far enough from work to get a good walk in, but not so far that I need to take a bus
-the conductors are nice
I now have another reason for loving Metra:
-not only are the conductors nice, they've got great memories and will help you out
Yesterday morning I'm on the train and go to pull out my ticket - a monthly ticket that's in a credit-card sized holder along with my CTA card and a mini train schedule - and I can't find it. I move to the vestibule so I can empty out my purse and bookbag without disturbing everyone else, and still can't find it. Fortunately, I take the same train almost every morning so the conductor recognizes me and tell me not to worry about it, that he trusts me.
Over my lunch hour I walk back to the train station and bought a 10-ride just in case, but, lucky for me the conductor on the evening train had my ticket holder - I'd left it on Friday afternoon. I don't always take the same evening train, but I made sure to take the same one out yesterday that I'd taken on Friday. Hooray! Funny thing is, that he said in his 19 years of being a conductor, and all of the tickets he's found, only about 4 people total have ever asked him the next day if he found a ticket. Those monthlies are expensive, too.
A really random/dumb thing is that I almost always write my name & phone number on my ticket in addition to have it written on the ticket holder. Last month I picked myself up a new holder as my old one was falling apart, but hadn't yet written in my info. March was one of the few months I neglected to write it on the ticket, too. *smack*
Happy Tuesday all!

Glad the conductors took care of you!
that's awesome!
there are many benefits to taking the train. I wish I could, but it's actually a little out of my way to take it. And my commute is 10 miles. When it's consistently nice I can ride my bike again. :) Assuming, of course, stupid bike registration doesn't go thru....
that's really tremendous! you shoudl write a letter!
That is a great story! I agree, you should write a letter. :)
I keep getting excited when I read about the train system the governor wants to put in Ohio. I really want it to be a city train, but I'll take a state train to start. I wish I could take the train to work!
