Anyway, I've gotten excited. I'm so excited that I got up and was at my polling place at 6:07 this morning even though I don't have to work today (Trey wanted to go before work, so I went with him). I'm sure living in Chicago helps - I saw someone outside of the train station the other day selling Obama gear - but I think the rest of the country is generally excited as well. Here's a great little Youtube video, for anyone who's an Obama fan and knows anything from Les Mis.
Along with the excitement, I'm also nervous. The numbers in the polls are looking good, but we all know about the whole "Dewey defeats Truman" thing. Is the media favoring Obama because of the historical significance of the situation, or have people really figured out that McCain's only going to make matters worse, especially if he dies and that stupid, evil woman ends up as president by default (just so you know I'm not slamming her without doing my research, I think she's evil because of her stance on reproductive rights, and I'm calling her stupid because she went to something like 7 or 8 different colleges and ended up with only a B.A. in journalism - we don't want that running our country)? I had a rehearsal last night and the person I was sitting next to me said that she'd kill herself if Obama didn't win. I've heard a bunch of people are thinking about moving to Canada in the event the map has too much red.
I'll be up as late as need be tonight. I almost wish I worked today but didn't have to work tomorrow - I'd go to the rally in Grant Park, or at least get as close as I could.
Don't forget to vote!
Late addition - there are also some freebies out there for those who have voted.
- Free tall coffee at Starbucks
- Free scoop at Ben & Jerry's from 5-8pm
- Free star-shaped donut with patriotic sprinkles at Krispy Kreme
Trey and I will definitely be going to Ben & Jerry's later as there's one very close to our house, and I may have to make a trek over to Starbucks later on. Too bad we don't have Chick-fil-a here - they're giving away chicken sandwiches, and I love Chick-fil-a!

I was curious - how do those companies know if you voted???? I heard about the coffee one...not about the other freebies....
They closed the Krispy Cream near me! Since I don't drink coffee, do you think that Starbucks would give me a hot chocolate instead?
You're supposed to show them your "I voted" sticker - do you get anything like that in Oregon? - although I think Starbucks has said that in order to be in compliance with some kind of mandate, they're just giving coffee to anyone who asks for it.
Mom, not sure about hot chocolate - maybe tea?
I'm glad you are soo excited about the election. I think the level of excitement says a lot about someone!!
I wish we had a krispy Kreme or Ben and Jerry's near me...
Oh--yes Viki--you are right about me!
we don't have those stickers b/c we send in our ballots (although there are apparently lines at the drop boxed today for the people who missed the Saturday mail-in deadline).
I wouldn't mind a sticker, though....actually, I'd rather have a sticker than any of those freebies (I'm trying to limit my junk!).
So they give you caffeine, sugar and fat for voting. Is that a first step toward a better health system in the US? ;)
Ha! You're awesome. That's so funny! :-)
The musical was GREAT!!! Thanks for sharing that!!!
Viki--did you get your free scoop of ice cream??
Katrin--that was funny!
I did get out to Starbucks - it was my afternoon treat after a few hours of chores - but elected not to go to Ben & Jerry's. I drove by ours around 6pm and the line wasn't too bad, but by 7 it was pretty long. A Frosty it was!
