Gentlemen, you have been warned - nothing graphic, but still probably not anything you'd be terribly interested in reading...

I shouldn't complain, because not being on hormonal birth control for the past year and a half has been great for my sex drive, but why is it that my body cannot seem to stay on a normal schedule?
Cycles this year: 32 days, then 38, 45, 32, 32 (yeah! same length twice in a row!), 34, and this time...21 days! What the hell?
This partly explains why my lower back has been aching for a day and a half, and I could certainly deal with not having bad cramps (another IUD side effect) if I had a period every 3 weeks but geez. Evi, if you're reading this post, THIS is why I started taking BCPs in the first place. I couldn't deal with being this irregular. At this point in life, however, the alternative is much worse.
Anyway, thanks for listening.

Viki--I went on BCP for the same reason. I had a 3 week period once which is the absolute worst. Hope you feel better and get regulated soon. *sympathetic hug*
I don't recall questioning why in the first place.
What are the advantages of the IUD vs Pill? Just not having to think about it daily, or not actually taking "artificial-to-you" hormones? Is there any "transition" time where things might flux, for, say, 6-12 months, and then even out? A 45 day cycle would be REALLY nice to balance out on!!!
When we were teenagers and had those painful cramps, our dad would get yelled at - b/c it was HIS fault we were girls (true, true) and therefore his fault for the cramps and periods and such. And there were 3 girls...
You just mentioned your *healthy* sex drive to your mom. hee. (yes. I'm 14 still.)
I hope you feel better quickly! And that there is more time untill your next one...3 weeks? blech!
Martha, for more info, see my IUD post(s) in January 2007. Basically, I've got an IUD, the copper kind, which is non-hormonal and works for 10 years. I felt a little premature getting tubes tied at 27, plus that's a little invasive for me. The deal is that if we still don't want kids when I hit the 9 year mark (I'll be turning 37 at that point), Trey's getting snipped.
Anyway, 45 days between periods is nice, but I start to get paranoid, despite my extremely effective method.
ahh, you've had it for a year and a half now; that makes sense (I had been thinking it was just this winter you did that, so maybe it needed time....)
ew, the worst part (after rereading it) is that you're likely to get heavier periods. Blah! I guess you can just put the random cycle thing on your list of things at your next appt. Being copper does that mean that it just prevents pregnancy but your body still dictates the cycle (i.e. not the hormones in a pill)?
So....did the rosemary sprout from your infertility celebration dinner??
dude, i'd be paranoid if it was 45 days. with an irregular period liek this i'd be worried all the time.
since getting off bcp again i'm down to 25 day period cycles but still only 4 days long. i'm not a fan.
remind me again why men don't have to deal with any equavalant?
Yeah to being a woman!
I don't keep track of my period (yes, I know you should), so it'll always come as a (painful) surprise. All I know is that it should come around the 15th. :)
I can't do any hormonal birth control - no sex drive, hurting and aching, gaining weight.
I've been experimenting for about ten years to find a good solution that won't render me infertile. (Because we do want to have kids one day).
