Today is the first really nice day we've had this year...well, yesterday was nice, too, but today is better. Sunny and 72. Pretty windy, but I can deal with that. It's so nice, actually, that I made a big effort to get outside for a walk, even though Wedsnesdays are typically too crazy to do that. I made it, though!
Something else fun is that the tulip bulbs are coming up in the planter boxes along Michigan Avenue and along the river. Last week I noticed them barely starting to sprout, but they're growing fast now so I bet we'll have tulips by next week. This year I need to remember to bring a camera along to work one morning...it's so neat to see when they all come out.
As for the rest of my report - the wedding this past weekend was fun. Highlights included getting see all of Trey's friends (they're all such good guys) and actually meeting the bride, the mini buttermilk biscuits that came with dinner at the reception, dancing the Cotton Eyed Joe for real (i.e., not the midwest high school made up version), seeing the armadillo, and huevos rancheros for breakfast Sunday. I also found a really cute bag at the airport on Sunday, which I actually let myself buy because it was less than $20. I should take a picture of it, too. :-)
The one really weird thing from this weekend...I went sleepwalking in the hotel. Our floor had a small lounge area with some couches near the elevator, and I woke up there in the middle of the night. My guess is that I went looking for something to drink (the wedding had the 'parlor' room on the floor, which was left open and had snacks and pop) because when I woke up there was a diet coke on the table next to me. I'm sure this only happened because I was WAY overtired, but it's still a little weird. Any thoughts/suggestions?

What IS the real cotton eyed joe version? I only know one. Then I saw another one recently and I was like: that's not it! So which is the real version?? One version is the only way I'll get on a dancefloor, oh, EVER.
Hmm. Sleepwalking. I have no experience with that so I can't help there. I think one of Karen's friends (Dave?) does that stuff. That'd freak me out in a hotel, eek!
It not been for Cotton Eyed Joe... Thanks for dancing the CEJ with me! I had a blast. I too am wondering what the 'other' version is? We only dance it one way in Texas!
I am a sleepwalker too and it is much worse in sleepy states. I have also seen an up tick in sleepwalking when I have indulged in adult beverages too!
I know one is a regular line dance - boxish, straight. Then there is another where people are in lines coming out like spokes of a tire and go forward and backward and stomp.
Which is "real"? I've only seen it in KY and OR (neither being midwest states....)
As I was driving down to my riding lesson last night I passed a yard with a lot of tulips in the yard. I thought of you. :) (Tulips are also among my favorites. I have a lot of "favorites" though).
I think Martha and Justin are the only people reading my blog! Just kidding...
The Cotton Eyed Joe we did was the version with the people in lines like spokes of a wheel - I don't think we went backwards at all, though. I'll have to find a You Tube video of it.
I do agree on the sleepwalking is also worse after having imbibed, so probably the combo of the bubbly with the lack of sleep was what did it.
Tulips are my mom's favorite, too.
I forget that you guys live closer to the Great Lakes and that your spring is behind ours. Our tulips are up and blooming as well as our hyacinth and daffodils. Many of my plants are way above ground and my trees and bushes are sprouting leaves.
I must only know how to dance the CEJ the high school way....then again I DID learn it from 8th graders. HAHA.
Glad you had a good time. All that talk of food makes me hungry!
To add to this, the only version of Cotton Eye Joe I know is a techno version from a Scandinavian band. We danced to that when I was about 12. :)
I wish I could go to a weeding too... I guess my friends are "not there yet".
Oh, you better not wiggle out of the pictures you are promising here!!! :)
Now I will have to be on a mission. The "spokes of a wheel" CEJ is the only one I have ever seen. I promise that Viki did go backwards with the glorified kickline, I almost tripped when she didn't get the transition the first time! You don't want to loose your balance in a backwards moving group!
you sleepwalked/sleptwalked (what the heck!?) in an unfamiliar place!? wacky!!
your avatar looks super cute in her new spring outfit. is that supposed to be navy pier? :)
CEJ- i'm sure there's a dance but i can assure you i did hte "midwest" version at the father daughter dance a few weeks ago! i have no doubt i looked like an idiot!
Viki's sleepwalking is why we don't keep ice cream in the freezer! ;-)
My bad on the backwards thing. :-)
It's not Navy Pier on my avatar - Navy Pier actually stretches out into the lake, so no woods or anything. I did put the ferris wheel in the picture on purpose, though. I recently finished "Devil in the White City" which surrounds the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, and the event for which the first Ferris Wheel was designed and used.
I hope you were wearing your jammies while you were sleepwalking.....
Fortunately, yes. I often forget to bring PJs on trips, but I got lucky this time. :-)
I had a friend who sleep walked down the street in a not-so-good neighborhood where she was visiting a friend for the first time. Glad you were pretty safe in your hotel. I have no thoughts on sleep walking except if you are going for a drink make sure you don't go somewhere you need $$, I don't know anyone who keeps $$ in their pjs!
I only danced the midwestern CEJ dance-I need to learn the real version!
Yea, Jen! The "real" version is the only thing that'll get me out on the dance floor - with or withOUT the benefit of booze...
hahahaha...how embarrassing if someone would do that NOT in their jammies...OR in quite *interesting* "jammies"...oy...
