I, like Lisa, was lucky enough to have the day off on Monday for MLK Day. Why is it, though, that it just wasn't long enough? I'm definitely feeling better than I was by this point last week, which leads me to believe it was restful to a point, and that's certainly better than nothing...
Friday night we decided to do something we haven't done in months - stayed home and ordered a pizza! We've been doing more movies on nights we're home, but usually we cook something simple or heat up some Oma food from the freezer. What a nice change of pace. :-)
Saturday was busy for me with a CCC rehearsal and a rehearsal for church on Sunday (music was WAY different this week), which had me gone for most of the day. Late afternoon was spent cracking open some of the Texas pecans we picked up at the farm last month, for the purposes of trying a new recipe - sauted trout with pecans. Can I say awesome? We know what to do for next time to make it better, but it was so good already! Definitely one that we'll make again the next time we feel like shelling open some nuts.
Sunday was interesting - I sang at Techny this week, and the music director wanted to do some spirituals (solos for me) and some stuff in more of a Gospel style (for the congregation to sing). I felt good about my solos, but man, the crowd was so dead. They don't sing much normally, and I always feel like they're looking at me like I have a 3rd eye, but this week they were looking at me like I had a 3rd eye and a pair of antenna growing out of my head. Oh, well, it was a nice change of pace for sure.
Sunday afternoon I had the opportunity to judge kids' costumes at the annual Kinderfasching event some of the Chicago German clubs put on together. Two of the best costumes hands down were 1) a kid about Alex's age dressed up as a skunk, and 2) a 7-8 year old boy dressed up as a hockey goalie...poor kid was wearing all of the gear all afternoon and holding up very well. The look on his face when we gave him first prize for his age group was really just darling.
Monday most of my day was taken up with a CCC concert at the Chicago History Museum (formerly the Chicago Historical Society). It was a great concert in many respects - we sounded good, and the group was really together (our concerts this season have really been lacking polish, but this one was great). We also had a huge turnout - there were over 400 people, and we got on the evening news. Why don't we get that many people at our concerts?
The rest of Monday was spent cleaning, and now my house is not quite as gross as it was before the weekend, which is nice. Tonight is our 5th opera of the season - we see La Traviata!
Happy Wednesday. :-)

Glad to hear that you had such a nice weekend.
Hooray for more PR. Maybe your concert attendance will beef up. :-D
sounds like a nice productive (long) weekend. :) A good balance of busy and relaxation.
Enjoy the opera!
I like a night in with pizza, too.
you know, we don't have pizza either and when we get it i'm always happy. I think it's because i'm not cooking and it's just such laid back food you have to be in a good mood when you eat it. I'm jealous!
What movies have you watched lately?
I agree, ordering pizza is always a special treat, and like Karen, it makes me happy.
I'm excited to read your review of the opera!
Pizza is a staple food in our house. I don't know how you people keep it as a special treat. Whether we make it ourselves and get at the grocery store or just pick one up hot, we eat pizza at least once every two weeks.
And every time I eat it, it makes me happy. And probably fatter. But I don't care. :)
Little kids in costumes is always great. so cute!
I POSTED!!!! FINALLY!!! i'll try to be better...
I'm with you long weekends are never long enough...but I don't really remember cause I only got one of the 5 or six gov long weekends last year. I always seem to be deployed on those weekends...just like now.
I have to tell you about Jelaine's costume contest. They had a church costume party themed "Games". Jelaine dressed up like Miss Scarlet from clue and carried around a candlestick all night. She won too! She's awesome!
Kilroy was here!
Dood, that's awesome! Sorry you missed the gov't weekends. If it makes you feel better, I always had to work on them in the Navy Band.
Your weekend sounds a lot more busy than ours! Glad you had fun. It is really great to read about Fasching in another country, not just Austria and Germany. I used to love it as a kid, but now I don't really care about it anymore.
