I need to start this post off with a description of one of the gag gifts Trey found for his work Christmas party...he goes to Walgreens looking for a funny item, and finds...you know how they have those dancing Santas? They'll dance and play something like "Little St. Nick" by the beach boys? Well, he found this Hip Hop Doberman, this little gangsta type of dog with a large, light-up snowflake medallion that played a rap version of Jingle Bells. I laughed so hard I cried. I hope the Walgreens in your area has one so you can see it in person. If not, You Tube will have to suffice.
Other than that, things have been busy. It's interesting, too, that it's now feeling like Christmas, and I'm not sick of it yet. This is despite the fact that I've been rehearsing Christmas music with various groups since September, although the bulk has been since early November. Yesterday we had a Kindergruppe performance, which proved yet again why sometimes you have to start singing Christmas songs early. We had a small group of only 13 kids, but I think we had the ones who knew the songs best and who also happened to be the loudest...you know those little ones aren't shy at all. My favorite was the little boy (3 years old) who knows what he's doing but has the attention span of a fish - every time he sees his dad, he'll stop what he's doing (often in the middle of a dance), walk over to his dad and starts a conversation. He did the same thing to me at one point (Miss Viki, what are those bells for?). Everyone in the place cracks up.
Yesterday was also an interesting day in church...I got some reassurance that I'm a good musician during that one, too. Some of us were supposed to sing "Lift Thine Eyes" from Elijah, with 2 altos, 2 soprano 2s, and me on first. Well, one alto go the flu, which was fine cause the other one's good, but both of the other sopranos missed call time. Then, when they got there they started crapping all over themselves so I jumped down and sang their line with them a couple of times. When we went for a last run through, they still couldn't get it, and it's not that hard! I guess part of the problem though is that I don't understand what's so hard about showing up with your music learned when that's your job...I'm not proud of myself for that part, just about singing the other part not on the fly.
Ok, enough for now. I'll try to be better about posting this week...

What a great gag gift. :-)
Ugh for people not knowing their stuff. Good thing you know how to be professional. :-D
I wish I could've heard the kids sing. I heard a little bit of a performance last Sat, but we ran to the exit when they started to get their recorders (I mean the little wooden flutes) out. Martin's cousin who is a clarinet player said that there is no way on earth that anyone could ever play that instrument nicely. :)
Recorders can be played well, but only by and people who are really into medival and early baroque music (not kids). Handel has some nice recorder sonatas. :-)
Why is it they handed recorders out to every 3rd grade kid at my grade school? Based on that alone, I'm on Katrin and Martin's side. ;) I'm sure there are exceptions and all, I'd just rather not risk it. ;)
Congrats on doing so well! Sounds like both you and Trey are getting affirmation of your talents recently. That's great!!!
I'm not even going to lie about this...
"Then, when they got there they started crapping all over themselves so I jumped down and sang their line with them a couple of times."
I really thought they pooped their pants. And even writing this is making me laugh out loud.
I think my day was way too long.
ps. I did realize a few lines later what you really meant. :) LOL! I can't stop laughing at myself!!!!
Lisa! That thought crossed my mind, too, when I read it, and then realized it later. HOWEVER, your comment has me ROLLING. And I'm trying to be quiet in my cube. Which just makes it worse and now my face is all red.
ewwwwww!
i want to see that 3 year old!
Max (the three year old) is the cutest thing! What Viki failed to mention, is that we were in the middle of singing "O Tannenbaum" when he walked up to her and asked what the bells were for in a very loud voice. The entire audience chuckled, and his parents almost tried to hide under the table. He is too cute for words.
I think the little boy has to be too cute.
My mom loves those singing santa's. She has a whole collection now. I may just have to add the singing doberman!
If I have kids, I want them to be that cute. However. *THAT CUTE* probably actually means *handfull*, so, then again, maybe not. ;)
It is funny what people pull out of the post. I thought the crapping was funny as well as the kid, but I loved the "attention span of a fish" more than anything. I think I will add that to my long list of slang phrases.
