- work sucks, and on top of the hell that has consumed my office, I'm really busy
- when I'm not stuck in that horrible place I've been running around either having fun, working for the good of others (which includes things like making sure my husband has clean clothes), or both
The initial vent - work has gotten bad. In the past 4 weeks we've lost 5 upper management people, 4 of whom quit and one of whom was fired...only we're not sure that he was fired legally because he owns part of the company and was only pushed out because the main owner doesn't like him. This has resulted in a lot of work getting dumped on some of us, including me - I literally walk into work every day not knowing where to start because although I have too much to do, there's so much of it I'm feeling buried. Things will get even better in a week or so when my cohort goes on maternity leave. As much as I hate being there, I wish I had the time to work some overtime so I didn't feel so overwhelmed.
Now, I can leave, as soon as we close on our apartment, which we were supposed to do yesterday. I even took the day to work from home in the morning, but got a call around 10:30 from a very upset Trey. Seems that in the rush to get things done in May, no one had bothered to list our garage space on the title, so while we'd be paying for it had we closed yesterday, we wouldn't own it. We're looking at next Wednesday now. Grr. As upsetting as that was after all of the frustration, I still didn't mind a whole lot because it meant that a) I still wasn't at work yesterday, and b) there'd be another day next week I could not be there or leave early, depending.
Ok, enough with the venting - good stuff that's happened lately:
- Last night was the first Kindergruppe practice of the year - we had a ball! The song with the tricky words I'd been working with the kids on finally started to get where I could tell most of them were getting it.
- Chicago Chamber Choir has started up again - I love that group. If I live in Chicago until I'm dead, I'll sing with the group until I'm dead or can't sing anymore, whichever comes first.
- Last weekend was German Day - our club had a beer tent, and Saturday was crazy. We went through 87 barrels on Saturday, which is a record (we think) for that particular spot. Friday night was a little slow because the power went out in the tent, so I, fortunately wearing my cleavage dirndl, walked around the crowd pointing out our tent and telling them there was no line, that it was the express beer tent, etc. Everyone seemed very appreciative.
- Yesterday I got a call from the music director at Techny, telling me he got my name from XXX, and that he's looking to fill a spot in his cantor rotation. It conflicts with Sacred Heart, but it pays twice as much, so I'll have to work something out. I meet with him tomorrow afternoon.
I'll shut up, as this blog post is certainly getting long enough. Time for me to do some yoga and warm up before I head out to sing a wedding this afternoon...I'll write more this coming week - I promise!

Sorry to hear you still have yet to close on your place, but it is for the better.
Glad to hear the exciting life you lead is getting more and more exciting by the day. :-) I'm sure it will all fall into a rythm here soon!
Good that you can list 4 good things, and only 2 bad things! I hope that the condo buying episode is over soon, that is such a night mare (on top of everything).
We've also had a few changes in the office, I am going back tomorrow to see what's up. :)
so is the plan to job shop once the condo is finalized?
Your life sounds crazy right now. I have to say it is good to hear that people are recommending you for more singing jobs. That ROCKS!
Work sounds like it sucks! It's good that you can quit when you close. And at least you caught the snafu before you closed and now you can own a garage too!
Ugh, what a ton of crap! I hope that everything gets worked out with the condo, it certainly has been quite an ordeal for you guys.
Hurray on all the awesome singing opportunities! I need to plan a trip to Chicago so I can hear you!
I'm sure that garage space is worth almost just as much as the condo as I know that's hard to find in Chicago! So waiting a week is well worth the wait I'm sure. And congrats on the new singing gigs... that's very exciting!
I wish I could see pictures of you in your dirndl and whole outfit and whatnot... I'm sure you were a super cute German girl!!
