We think she's the momma of the family we think is living under our grill. Usually it's the daddy that's collecting discarded sunflower seeds, but today it's her. Chipmunks are so cute. :-)
This morning was quite a morning, let me tell you. I sang my first mass at Techny this morning - the link will show you pictures of the gorgeous space. What a challenge, though. Normally it's a little nerve-wracking to sing at a new church for the first time, but in a larger, more echoy space it's much worse because of the delay...imagine needing to sing a second or two ahead of what you're hearing and you'll get the idea. This morning was even crazier because they were ordaining 9 new deacons so they had a bishop there and about 5 priests in addition to the deacons. Mass, which at this place is normally a hour tops, was an hour and 40 minutes - not that I minded the added length, but that's a long time to be nerve-wracked! In the end all was well, and I guess if that's the worst it ever is, I'll be fine!
Kirchweih last night was fun, but I did forget the camera. For those who don't know what Kirchweih is, the word literally means "church blessing" and is/was a festival to commemorate the anniversary of when the church of a given town was blessed each year. Here are some neat old pictures of what an aufmarsch would've looked like in a Donauschwaben town - nowadays we still do the basics (an aufmarsch concluding with the auctioning off of a rosemary bush), but the fest is one evening rather than 3 days and the girls don't wear the kinds of tracht that the girls in these photos are wearing - we save that for Trachtenball to avoid too much excitement on one night. Anyway, it's one of my favorite events of the year and definitely the one that smells the best as there are a couple of rosemary bushes around, and everyone gets a sprig of the stuff to wear!
That's all I'm going to say for now - have to get ready for a busy week ahead, which includes two interviews at personnel agencies (hopefully I'll have something new lined up in another month!), my official start as Outreach Coordinator for Chicago Chamber Choir, and the Cubbies in the playoffs!

When I first saw the picture, I thought that was a rat. Then I freaked out. Then I looked closer and saw how cute that momma is!
Too bad you forgot the camera for kirchweih. Good luck with your upcoming week!
When I saw the pic I thought it was a rock, then looked at it again and saw the Chipmunk.
Good luck on your interviews. Hopefully you'll be posting good news soon. :-)
Nicole has a little squirrel who visits us - he run down the porch support and plays in the grass when we sit on the porch. Love it!! don't you just want to pet the chipmunk?
