Man, where to start? Things have been a little crazy, but here we go…
I don’t really remember what happened at the end of last week – I think we were actually home together a few more times last week than we normally are. Saturday morning I sang a First Communion, actually 2 of them back to back. As torn as I do get with the whole idea of first communion, I did catch myself smiling at the kids, who were very cute because they looked so nervous and serious. I tell you though, their parents really get obnoxious with picture taking – it was like a zoo with people climbing all over the place. In any case, both services were shorter than I was figuring, so the good part was that I got home with enough time to eat and do some chores before Trey and I went for our contract signing. Saturday night it was off to the Bottle Band show, as Trey reported. Check out their video clips, linked on his page!
Sunday morning was church as usual before heading to Oma & Ota’s to pick them up for Trey’s big concert. He didn’t mention it, but the community band he conducts had a huge concert on Sunday – it was one of the first events at the brand new Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. The concert was great – the band has grown leaps and bounds, both musically and on a personnel level, since I saw them last fall. Trey works so hard, and it looks like it has not only paid off, but that the payback will keep coming over the summer through some new members. I’m really proud of him…and it’s fun to watch him conduct because he has such a cute butt. :-)
Anyway, the drive up and back with O&O was nice. I felt bad at first because I insisted on driving – Ota’s 81 and I don’t want him to have to worry about driving around in an unfamiliar place and getting lost, but I felt like I was taking away his independence. I later confirmed with mom that it was probably Oma who insisted that Ota drive, so I didn’t feel as bad. They did get to see our pad for the first time, which I know they were both anxious to do, and we had a nice dinner and visit with them before heading back to our own house.
The week started off being busy at work, and thankfully has slowed down just a little bit today. Something great that did happen this week, though, was that I found a great place to sing over the summer. I need to sing something for the director this coming Monday after rehearsal, but I don’t have anything to worry about. After talking to the president of the group, who happens to be my high school voice teacher and one of the founding members of the St. Luke’s Bottle Band, it sounds like it could be even better for connections than I originally thought; seems their director also heads up Music of the Baroque, a very prominent group in Chicago. He certainly wouldn’t be a bad guy to know!
Ok, back to work for now – hope everyone’s doing well!
