Man, what a week...

Sorry to be so absent this week, but things at work have been insane, and I’ve had a little less time at home, too. Trey and I did get to be home together again on Wednesday night and got to try a yummy new recipe…the not so good part about it being that we could still smell it in the apartment last night when we each got home. Oh, well – maybe we’ll have to open one of the big doors tonight for a little while.

I’ve been very focused on what kind of music I want to be listening to for most of this week, now that I have access to it all of the time. While I’ve still got about ¾ of my CD collection to add to the pod, I’ve made a nice dent and have plenty of music for now:

  • Monday morning it was Vivaldi oboe concerti to start off the week with an energizing feeling
  • Tuesday it was ?? what was it again on the walk in ?? and Anonymous 4 with some chant on the way home
  • Wednesday Mozart for Morning Coffee on the walk in and some spirituals on the way home as I was feeling a little more melancholy
  • Thursday it was early American all day to get into our upcoming CCC concerts, but some more chant on the late train ride home, this time with some monks
  • This morning was particularly funny to me – I felt like Beethoven 6, which I thought was funny since the temp had dropped and it had started snowing again. Sort of like when it’s 100 degrees in the summer and you want to watch a movie like Polar Express? It did make for a much nicer morning, though.

Note for those less familiar with the classics, Beethoven 6 is his pastoral symphony - it's the piece of music in Fantasia with all of the little cupid babies running around trying to make the goat people fall in love, then it starts raining, then it gets sunny again...

Something that I did begin to ponder, however, was this – am I strange because I listen to that kind of stuff on my walk? And Gregorian chant on the train? I see all of these folks with iPod nanos walking around and automatically come to the conclusion that they must have all sorts of pop music, which seems normal, so does that make me weird? Also, I’m realizing that as I’m listening to all of this not new music, I’m slowly getting farther away from pop music, and realize I haven’t really listened to the radio much lately. Do I care? I don’t know…

On a completely different note, I’m looking forward to the weekend – Trey and I are judging a high school solo & ensemble contest tomorrow, and the rest should be fun, too…

Tom P would say that you're the bomb for avoiding pop music. I think the difference is that you can ignore pop music since it's not that good whereas i feel i need to give actual attention to Classical because it is good! like to ignore it would be to insult the composer or something.

i'm a loser.

I can only listen to classical music when I'm in a certain mood. I need words in my music most of the time. And in English. LOL!

So I guess that means I'd be the person on the train listening to pop, rock, alternative, pretty much anything but classical. Except maybe on my way home from work. Then I'd probably need the classical to wind down at the end of the day.

Hey Viki, I was bored and reading your friends profiles and noticed Lisa lives in Dayton. She and Jelaine should meet. Yeah? She could always use more friends in Dayton. If you read this lisa, check out my wife's blog: Jeldnc.blogspot.com. Except she hasn't posted in over a month...I'm working on that one.

Kilroy was here!
