Texas, part 3

Friday:
Friday we slept in a little before going out to breakfast with Meme. Seeing posters of biscuits and gravy all week had me craving them, and man did we have a great breakfast at the Bluebonnet CafĂ©! Looking at the menu I was a little disappointed because my breakfast only came with one biscuit and I was trying to make the rest of my breakfast small – fortunately the biscuit was huge…about 1 ½ times the size of my fist. I’m sure it was bad for me because I think I felt it for the rest of the day, but man, was it worth it.

After that we met up with Trey’s mom and Tim and just hung out before meeting up with Dave, Melanie, and their 9 month old, Abigail. They’re great folks, Abigail was a doll, and good time was had by all.

Saturday:
Here’s where the trip started to get nuts for me, starting with our breakfast of wine and chocolate! Quite seriously, we all (us 2, Trey’s mom & Tim) went to a morning wine tasting (it took us weeks to figure out it had something to do with Valentine’s Day) that paired two each of wine and port with several types of chocolate and cheese. It was a nice class in that it offered a little something for everyone ranging from beginners to more advanced folks, but we were still a little disappointed due to there not being quite as much to sample as we’d been anticipating. That being said, wine in the morning makes for a very groggy rest of the day and we decided not to do it again given the opportunity.

After that we all spent some time running errands before heading back home. Trey and I went back out to take a family pic with his dad’s side (dad, stopmom, T & me, brother, 2 sisters & Samuel), which took most of the afternoon, so by the time we got back home it was time for the party!

Parties at Trey’s moms are always wonderful – like the parties we always had at my mom’s only we’re not teenagers anymore, and there’s a lot of wine involved. We saw most everyone we hadn’t yet visited while down there and really just had an all around wonderful time. Several bottles of wine were opened, and the food was wonderful. I was doing great until Ryan (one of Tim’s sons) started making practice chocolate martinis as practice for his Valentine’s Day dinner, at which point I started doing even better…until Sunday morning. Man, those martinis were so good, and how could I argue when I was handed a second, or a third for that matter?

Needless to say, Sunday morning was a little rough, but Trey and his mom went and got us some great Taco Cabana breakfast. Yum! The rest of the day was pretty low key until we went to the airport for our 5pm flight, which was, by the way, not so good…screaming 13 month old across from us and his 4 year old sister who was also bouncing all over the place, along with their clueless parents who, rather than calming them down so they could sleep (parents kept talking about how overtired they were) were bouncing them around and giving them candy and energy bars. Sorry, I know travel, especially flights, can be hard on children but I’ve been on too many flights with well-behaved ones to believe that this kind of behavior is normal/acceptable.

Anyway, that was our trip – now we’re back and it’s cold! We got tons of snow earlier this week so things are beautiful, and we’ve gotten to spend 2 evenings together this week, with another one on the way tonight. Have a good weekend everyone!

ooh. Kathy and I did a Valentine's weekend wine tasting last year (we totally didn't realize it was Vday weekend....and for us to go to several wine tastings...we must've looked like a couple of incestuous lesbians....we'd even share the tasting flights (went to a couple wineries). Sounds like you had a fabulous time, that's great (fabulous, really)!
