Last one before Texas!

It's been really cold around here. Today the high was supposed to be 10, but I don't think it stayed that way for long, if it ever got there. At 5:30 when I was driving home, it was 1, and some farther out areas were already in the negatives. I think Trey and I are lucky that we picked this week to go down south, because Chicago's not going to get any warmer.

Some reflections on life in Chicago, because this city's felt so great this week:

I found myself wondering whether or not it's weird that I take certain things for granted - like that every day I walk past the Sears Tower and the world famous Art Institute and its bronze lions every day. How about that I ride past Wrigley Field on the El at least once a week? Or that I work two blocks down from the Chicago Symphony and in the same neighborhood as the Lyric? Hmm...

Now some fun Bears stuff: Most of the scrolling marquees (the signs on the El and subway, Metra, the Tollway, and McDonalds, you name it) have "Go Bears!" at some point in their messages.

The little control buildings along the Chicago River are alternating - one will have blue lights, and the next will have orange. Many people at other agencies and companies I'm in regular contact with have been signing their e-mails "Go Bears!" all week.

The past couple of nights, coming back from rehearsal has been cool. All of the buildings that change the colors of their lights around the top, plus a few extra, have blue and orange lights now. The Sears Tower, the Hancock Building, the Tribune building, and many more are showing their spirit. Here's the picture of the day on WBEZ's websight, which will just give you an idea of what a couple of the buildings are doing:

At the curtain call for the final night of Die Fledermaus, the cast came out all decked out in Bears garb, and tonight they plan to do even more after the opera.

And finally, Trey heard the other day that Virginia McKaskey is happy because everyone's re-learning the words to the Bears' fight song. You can see Bryan Griffin of the Lyric Opera singing it on YouTube, and you can download it from the Chicago Symphony's websight...

Happy Superbowl Sunday! Go Bears!

Bear down, Chicago Bears! Make every play, clear the way to victory!

Bear down, Chicago Bears! Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly!

We'll never forget the way you thrilled a nation, with your T formation.

Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you're wearing the crown,

You're the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, Bear down!

That's so much fun! Happy travels to somewhere warmer. Don't forget that we're still here freezing our butts off.

Go Bears!

Are you going to blog while in TX and rub it in how warm it is there? While Chicago will apparently be in the singles and negatives, at least in the beginning....
Have a fabulous trip!

Oh my crap you're lucky to be leaving this cold (I must admit, tho, -3F isn't as cold as I thought it would be...although it's DARN COLD).

awww, so sorry your Bears lost. ;) I missed the entire game, I just heard the final score in the car on the way to the hotel.

Sorry about the bears as well!!

Atleast you'll be in Texas all week and won't have to hear about the loss OVER and OVER again on the radio and tv and whatnot. Have fun!!

Oh and one more thing... you just made me REALLY jealous! I want to live where you live!

those buildings are so cool. I know it sounds dumb, but i really really like it when people can actually work together to do something a little special (like leaving thier office light on) that they don't have to do.

That picture is great! I agree with Karen's comment.

And I'm totally jealous that you're going to Texas where you'll be warm.....right now it's 6 degrees here, but with the wind chill it's -11. Sweet.
