Another weekend down...

(I started this one yesterday and never got it posted…only got it half finished actually…)

And again, another one that felt much more like a weekend! Friday night I was singing with the Donau kids, and finally remembered to tell the parents I could send them PDFs of the music if their kids wanted to practice…and immediately had a couple who wanted the songs e-mailed. I love it – they’re so cute. *grin*

Saturday I slept in until…drumroll…10:45am. The last time I slept in that long was vacation, and the time before that I don’t remember. It’ll be a couple of weeks until I’m able to sleep in, weekends included, so it made me happy. After that Trey and I ran to the mall so I could buy bridemaids’ shoes for Kristin’s wedding and visit the iPod store – I finally broke down and let myself buy one, and I’m very excited! I had a lovely walk into work Monday morning, listening to Renee Fleming’s Sacred Arias recording while it was snowing just a little bit. I will spend the evening putting more of our CD collection onto it – I really want to listen to the Brahms Requiem right now but it’s not on just yet.

Sunday was a little crazy for the first half of the day, with church in the morning starting out differently because it was the first Sunday in Lent. I’m really glad I wasn’t cantoring so I didn’t really have to know what was going on. After that I hauled over to club for the Kindergruppe brunch, at which Oma & Ota all treated us – they’re celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary this week (!) and wanted to treat us to brunch at Donau instead of someplace else. We love the brunches at club, and it’s such a great way to support the kids.

After that we drove downtown to the Hard Rock Hotel for Opera Idol. No, I was not a finalist, but I must say it was still a great ego boost. I only heard about 12 other people because we got there later, but I was much better than all but one of them. I’d been saying from the beginning that my goal was to have better audition than I did last Wednesday, and I definitely did. I did get nervous to the point where my legs were shaking pretty violently (should’ve worn a skirt like I did in college all the time) but I was much more in control of my breathing.

The judges were giving most people comments like, “Watch your intonation,” “your rhythm tended to get a little shaky/off,” and that kind of thing, but the only real comment they had for me was that I sounded great and would benefit from some coaching, which would help me loosen up, etc. This is nothing new for me, as I really do want to take some more lessons at some point, but finding the time and the spare cash for that will take a little while longer. Anyway, all in all it was a great experience, and lots of fun. We’re planning on going back for the Looptopia event to cheer on the fabulous tenor we heard who placed.

Yesterday at work was nuts, and today should be the same. I started out nicely, though, with some Vivaldi oboe concerti on the walk in. Tonight I get to pick up bridesmaids’ dresses for Kristin’s wedding!

Have a good Tuesday all!

though i doubt cincy has an opera idol contest, i have to admit, i'm in no circles to even know one way or another!

Glad that your audition comments were good! i had no doubt they would be!

those are great comments! good for you!

i am toying with the idea of buying an iPod - not sure I would use it - i don't do much walking, i'm not sure i would use it for exercise (but maybe it would motivate me), and i can't hook it up in my car... hmmm. maybe i should rethink this.

The audition thing is awesome. I auditioned for RENT in Austin once. I was terrible though...I get terribly nervous like that too. It sucks. Anyway, sounds like fun! Catch ya later.

For Beth - I think the #1 reason I finally broke down was because I wanted to study music on the train and, when I needed to listen to stuff to make sure I wasn't learning it wrong, I wanted to not have to lug the comparatively large portable CD player. The iPod also gets louder than the CD player, and it doesn't skip. :-)

just letting you know, I don't have an ipod yet (so you weren't the completely last person not to have one...I do still have my walkman-not even a cd player!!).
While you didn't make it as a finalist on Opera Idol, that is fabulous and a good ego boost concerning their comments.
