Weekend whirlwind...

So, Friday Trey ended up getting to work about an hour and a half late, which was pretty quick in my estimation. When he was trying to get his car out (I wasn’t that much of a help, really) I realized that I’d done well with getting snowbrushes/ice scrapers for the cars, but completely missed getting shovels – when we lived in Kenosha our apartment complex was really great about plowing – so I called Home Depot and bought some shovels over the phone, anticipating that there would be a run on them. I spent the rest of the morning sitting at the computer and working, and around 1:30 finally ventured out because I really needed some cough medicine, and I wanted to pick up the shovels.

Fortunately, when I went outside there was a man with a shovel so it didn’t take nearly as long to get my car out as I’d thought it would. The roads were not in the best shape, but my little Golf was quite a little trooper in the snow! I had more trouble in the Target parking lot with the cart than I did with my car. My “quick” trip took about an hour and a half, and resulted in a greater than usual expenditure of energy, but that’s ok, too.

Saturday was a nice sleep in day before a rehearsal for Lessons & Carols. Singing was significantly more work for my body given the cold, so I was glad to have gotten extra rest the night before. Trey and I made dinner before heading out to the Yardhouse (a bar with 130+ beers on tap!!!) with my brother, his new girl, and some other friends. We were really sad to have to say goodbye at 12:15!

Sunday morning Trey and a pancake breakfast with the RLCB, and I had to cantor – man was that rough. I was beat after church! I got to watch the Bears win (!) before singing Lessons & Carols at St. Michael’s – evening services for Advent and Lent are always my favorite times to be in church. It was fun to see folks and good to get a chance to explain why we haven’t been there. Although one lady was a little huffy (sp?) when I said that I’d found a Sunday morning gig and said, “Well, sorry we can’t afford to pay you,” anyone who was or had been a musician knew better – ya’ gotta pay the bills somehow, and if it means not going to the church you want to attend during the year because you get paid somewhere else, then so be it. I did get some points for jumping in and sight reading to sing with the kid’s choir, which was missing a few members.

Trey had his own concert yesterday afternoon so we got to come home and share our successes (hooray for the great job he did yesterday on Brahms and Beethoven!) before making dinner and turning in early. Amazing how much more easily exhausted you get when you’ve got a cold and the weather’s bad on top of it!

This morning’s walk to work was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be – it’s 15 downtown, with a windchill of -3. Fortunately the wind didn’t pick up much for most of my walk!

Have a great day all!

Sounds like you had a fun yet exciting weekend! I don’t know if you’re into HGTV much or not but one of my favorite shows on there is House Hunting. They just happened to be doing an episode last night (not sure exactly what town… just knew it was close to downtown Chicago) where a couple was moving to a bigger condo near/on the El?? They showed lots of footage of the towns around the train and of the train… I just kept imagining you walking to catch the train every morning and how neat yet annoying at times that must be! Kind of gave me a faint glimpse into the life of Viki!
