One of those weeks I'm feeling sappy...

This is another one of those weeks I'm feeling just fabulous. :-) The weekend was incredibly busy, and then I did have another concert Monday night so by yesterday I was really feeling tired and my body was sore...but I still felt great! All of this singing is so good for me, and I'm still so high on the CCC. :-)

Concert Monday night was really nice - not as fun as Sunday because the sound at the different church Monday was deader than the sound in the space at the church Sunday, but a better concert overall with fewer mistakes. We also found out that the one huge mistake from Sunday night was not the choir's fault at all...our last piece on the program was a spiritual, and the last "verse" kept the choir going up by half steps. On Sunday, the last key change was very scary, sort of like it didn't happen and it took us all a measure and a half to get back on track. Well, we found out Monday that the accompanist missed the key change, not us. What a relief! That also gave us that much more reason to complain about him - he was pretty bad, as was the flute player we hired. At least they each only played on one piece.

Anyway, all in all it was a great performance. Trey said it was amazing, and since I know he's pretty musically critical, I was very appreciative of that. It made me think a little harder though...I realized that although we were singing some Christmas standards, most of the standard arrangements were audience singalong pieces. All of the other standard pieces had jazzed up arrangements, and then we did a bunch of non-traditional pieces and jazzier pieces. It was really a very well-programmed concert. I can't wait until the archival recording gets to us.

Speaking of archival recordings, I finally got and had a chance to listen to the recording of our November concerts - what an incredible concert! Trey wasn't bullshitting when he told me how good it was. I'm so proud. :-) I cannot wait until the spring concert!

Ok, so enough about that. I'm also excited for the caroling gigs I'm going, and all of the church singing this weekend. Caroling right before Christmas services in church have always been some of my favorite moments in church, only to be surpassed by Advent and Lenten Vespers services - all of those services are just so peaceful and I always have such a feeling of calm contentment and peace during them. What a wonderful time of year this is. Anyway, that's my sappiness for today - a warning that it's probably not over!

Last night was fun - the only night Trey and I got to spend together this week. We made American spaghetti and flipped back and forth between the tape of Grey's Anatomy and ER we were catching up with and the Pointsettia (sp?) Bowl game, during which TCU kicked the shit out of NIU - go Frogs! Tonight I have the place to myself to do some laundry and then run out and finish shopping. With any luck I will be organized enough to gather the rest of my X-mas cards and the list so I can finish those inbetween gigs tomorrow and Friday...even if my cards don't reach their recipients before Christmas they will at least have been mailed.

Ok, I think that's enough for now. I hope you're all having a good week. Only 5 days til Christmas!

PS - thanks to all who listed to CCC on WBEZ! I also just found out that the group that's singing the National Anthem at the Bulls game Saturday night will be televised! Too bad I won't be in it as I'm doing another gig...
