Sick

So, I think I got a mild case of the flu. Yesterday around 9:30am I started getting stomach cramps and felt really achey - started feeling achey on Sunday. I was going to go home, but was waiting for one of our head honchos to come in for a meeting. He never showed up and I ended up leaving at 5. I got a surprizing amount of work done considering, and I think it helped that I didn't eat anything (first thing I ate was a granola bar on the train on the way home around 6pm).

Last night I fell asleep on the couch before Trey got home, then slept almost continuously for another 11 hours or so. I feel much better, but still a little not right. I guess everyone has to get sick once in a while, and it so rarely happens to me that I shouldn't complain.

Other than that - this weekend was fun. :-) Saturday CCC retreat - we spent all afternoon singing, the first half being choral vocal exercises and the second half being working with a clinician on mostly Bach stuff. It's such a treat to sing with such talented people, and they're so professional. People don't talk during rehearsal, rehearsal time is used incredibly efficiently, and everyone's so good! I'm sure I will write more about this and say the same stuff, but it's true!

Sunday was my first morning for my new church gig - should be interesting. There's no old lady with the huge, warbly vibrato, but there are a couple of voices that could stand some reigning in. Fun news is that he's already got me on the cantor schedule for next month, which could lead to other good things as well. After church was lunch at Mark & Karen's - big day is Saturday!

Finally, yesterday I got a random call about singing the national anthem at a church Oktoberfest on Friday night. Apparently someone heard me German Day weekend and wants to have me sing. It's at a church that's doing this for the first time and they have a small budget, so I feel bad asking for money, but I am rearranging my schedule, traveling, and taking about 2-3 hours out of my life when all is said and done. In any case, I'm asking for $75, which is less than the $100 for to do just the anthem. Like I said, I feel bad so I have to talk this out so I can justify it. I have to supplement my income somehow!

That's all for now - more tomorrow...

You are giving them a deal, and after rearranging your schedule, I think it is fair...mostl paying for gas anyhow!

I hope you feel better!!

I would say you are being fair and I'm sure the church knew what they were getting into before calling. Nothing is truely fee any longer.

I hope you feel better. Kitties usually make good nurses!
