Ugh

I just had a really long post talking about the weekend and about the shower last weekend (8/19 & 20) and blogger was being stupid so I lost it. Ugh. Basically, the weekend was really fun, and productive at the same time. I started helping my mom get her house ready for European company & Mark's wedding rehearsal dinner, got some work for work done at home, had dinner with Oma & Ota and Onkel Sepp, who's in from Germany, had lunch with Mark & Karen on Sunday, and I don't know what else. It was fun and relaxing and busy all at the same time.

Last night was not as fun as I went to a wake for some friends' grandfather. Matthias Mayer was the guy who was Opi for the whole Jugendgruppe, kind of like Karen's parents were all of our parents in college. Opi & Omi had season tickets to the Chicago Fire, and would get such a kick out of seeing Tony on the sidelines at games - he'd always say hi and bring them water, and it tickled. A lot of the players actually thought they were Tony's grandparents. Anyway, he was one of the most energetic old guys out there, and thankfully he went soon after his stroke last weekend. I walked in to the funeral home and, fittingly, it looked like there was a party going on. :-)

That's all for now - I'll catch up on blog reading tonight and write more on mine tomorrow...

Is there a German Translator in the house? Anyone??? Anyone??

Oh well.

Sorry to hear about your friends' grandfather. I've never attended a wake. It sounds like this one was the right kind of wake to have.

Glad your weekend was full of family. Those are always the best.

Gotta love family like that, even if they aren't blood related! Glad to hear the wake fit the personality of the grandfather. We should all celebrate life like that when a person passes on.

It's so awesome when people step up and become family for their friends (or their children/granchildren's friends). Especially for those of us who are miles apart from our biological families.

Your family and their friends are always so good at that. Everytime I come visit I feel like I am part of the family. It is so wonderful.

Kilroy was here!
