Since Holly did such a nice post about annoying people at Walmart focusing on their tendencies to leave shopping carts all over the parking lot, I'm going to talk about annoying people at Walmart in general...
Most recently, I was at Walmart just to pick up a few cleaning supplies, cat food, etc., and as I was walking to the checkout lanes I was thinking about what an uneventful trip it had been. This was a very good thing, as usually I am tripping over people's screaming children, trying to avoid running into people who aren't watching where they're going, or trying to pass people who are taking up entire ailses (sp?). Since I had just a few items and Walmart has recently installed self-checkout lanes, I decided to go that route. There was a short line but my turn soon came up and I quickly walked up to the vacant scanner...only to be cut off by a woman and her teenage son. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, as lines as Walmart tend to be less than obvious, and said, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but there is line." Nothing. I try to do a little wave, at which point it becomes obvious that she's just choosing to ignore me.
I know Miss Manners would say that I should've just been the better party and not done anything else, but I was more than a little irked - first for being cut off, then for being ignored. I said one more time, much more loudly, "Excuse me, but there is a line!" and nothing. Her son just looked at me & shrugged. I wanted to smack her so as to get her attention but she quickly finished up and walked off (I wouldn't have really smacked her).
I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it did. The woman did only have one item (which I didn't notice until she was almost done checking out), but how hard is it to ask someone, "Hey, I only have one item and I'm in a hurry - do you mind if I cut in?" I've always let people do that. I just can't stand it when people are that rude.
That was just the most recent thing, but I generally don't have very good experiences at Walmart anyway, at least not up north. There can be one person in front of you in the checkout line and it still takes 20 minutes for the cashier to finish up with the person in front of you. I tend to bring my own bags to the store as well, and the cashiers always look at me like I'm an alien and it takes me forever to explain it to them. Ugh.
That's all for today - have a happy Friday everyone!

Wal-mart customers typically leave something to be desired!!!
Good idea in taking your own bags. I'm going to start that!!!
I second Jenny's response. Our WalMarts here are usually dirty and not fun to go to, especially the one closest to us currently. That said, there is a new Super WalMart that is fun (and clean) to go to in the Centerville/Kettering area... but almost too big to walk around and enjoy. Guess the WalMarts vary based on their location.
I hate WalMart and avoid it at all costs for mostly the same reasons you have mentioned. I never have a good experience, the shoppers are rude & inconsiderate and generally very oblivious to everything going on around them, the workers are rude, and the store is usually very dirty and waaaay too crowded with not enough help in the checkout lines so it takes much too long. I'd much rather pay a few extra cents and save my sanity by shopping at Target :)
I haven't enjoyed Wal-Mart nearly as much in Dallas, but I loved shopping there in Lubbock and they are actually building their third one. Go Lubbock!
I hear you though Viki. Its one thing if they don't realize they've cut you off, but entirely different if they just don't care.

Most people don't take hippie bags to Wal-Mart...but you'll never get weird looks at Whole Foods when you bring your own bag.
the EXACT same thing happened to the person in front of me at one of those wal-mart self check outs. Problem was that the lady in front of me was white and the cutter-offer was black so things got really tense for the HS kid "monitoring" the line. not fun. it was loud, obnoxious, and got crazy in general between the parties. wow.
