This is one of those posts that's going to take me all day - I can just feel it. Today is a Monday if there ever was one - I had to drag myself out of bed, even though I feel asleep on the couch last night at 9:30. I've had Monday's where I've been dragging more, but it seems like it's not just me today: the train was more crowded than usual and got in a few minutes late, and then there were more people than usual on all of the sidewalks. I have a feeling that the proporation of slow people also goes up exponentially when the sidewalks get more crowded so it took me an extra few minutes to get to work, too. Everyone here seems to be dragging, too.
Saturday was long - I helped my mom out by covering phones at St. James from 8-2, then ran some errands before going to mom's house to practice. I didn't have the best practice day, but it was so nice to sing as long as I wanted to in an empty house. I went home and cleaned a little, which is still hard because we're still sorting stuff out! Trey worked 'til 9:30, but was able to bring home a few different wines from the Binny's tasting that afternoon so we had a nice late evening sampling them. :-)
Sunday we discovered that the movers forgot to pack our ironing board, so it was off to my mom's again to iron before we headed down to Lincoln Square for the Maifest. I was on standby to dance the Bandltanz (Maypole dance), but Trey and I just ended up holding the pole. Deb D., who lives nearby, joined us and we had a great time hanging out with her, being outside, and drinking some Hofbrau Maibock bier. If you've never tried it - it's expensive but very worth it! We forgot the camera again, but Deb took a picture of us - hopefully she'll e-mail it soon and I'll post it.
One of the best parts about Sunday was that I left the fest feeling very loved. The Maifest is a rather new festival put on by the German Day Association, which has put on a fest the weekend after Labor Day every year for I don't know how long. When I was the parade queen in 97, I also sang the national anthems (USA & Germany) at the opening festivities, something that I continued to do every year until we went to Italy. Yesterday I had a bunch of people ask me if I'm going to do them again this year - the people who run the fest even asked me a couple of times. Better yet was that the trumpet player of Phenix - the German band yesterday, and the one that played at our wedding - mentioned that the Schwäbische Sängerbund is looking for a soloist for an October concert. I gave him my card - keep your fingers crossed for me!
That's all for today - have a good one!

Sounds like a fun and busy weekend.
BTW-where's our bread picture?
Good luck getting to help out the band. That sounds like it will be great fun!!! I never knew about the Maifest. Next year I will have to look for it, especially if I know you will be singing the German National Anthem. :) Do you know German??
awesome! that sounds like so much fun!!
Yes, I speak German - it was actually my first language.
Sorry, no bread pictures. I actually brought my camera today, but the bread was gone a few days ago...now there are diet Coke cans on sticks.
Sorry about no pictures to date - I'm just home so little, and when I am home I'm usually pretty exhausted, don't want to figure out how to work the camera software, and would probably be bitchy to Trey if he tried to show me how to do it 'cause I'd be fried. We also still haven't unpacked everything, and I want to keep the place liveable (i.e. not dirty) which is hard.
Pictures will come in August, or if I actually have 2 weekend days in a row where nothing is going on before August...
I know what you mean about it being a Monday yesterday, V. It seemed to start out alright for me, but by the end a long day and a 6 hour simulator, I was exhausted and in a bad mood. Lucky for me I have a late show today (1:00pm). I slept for ten hours I think.
Anyway, I love to watch maypole dances. I think it is so cool. Can't ait to bring J up there and do some German dancing with you and Trey.
Kilroy was here!
It's very flattering that they asked you several times to sing the anthems. It's always nice to feel wanted and talented. =)
