People with really bad breath

Before I start this message for real, I just have a few little things:
  • I got the part Pirates of Penzance. :-) I was again worried after last night and was prepared to be in bad mood all weekend but was so tired by the time we were done (10:15 - and I'd come straight from work so I was exhausted and starving - and Trey didn't get home until after I went to bed at 11:45) that I didn't care. He told me this morning, and I'm excited - mark your for the middle 2 weekends in July (I think?)! Since the play is double cast I'll get you specific performance dates later.
  • For any of you who haven't been here in a while (the TX folks?) check out my posts since the immigration one - some of them are good, too ("Drinkin' on the train")
  • Trey and I will be in Fort Worth tomorrow through Saturday - I'm sure both of us will try to blog while we're there, but things tend to get busy, so don't harass us.

Ok, now it's down to business. Wednesday evening I was on the train home and almost had my own seat when, at the last minute, this man sat next to me. I thought I caught whiff of some bad breath, so I just turned my head and looked out the window. No problem. Well, then the guy got a call on his cell phone, which meant that his mouth was open and some fumes that registered at about the noxious gas level started to invade my personal space. I spent the second half of my train ride constantly rubbing my nose because I found that it helped make breathing bearable.

My question is - would it have been terribly rude to offer this person a piece of gum? I think it probably would have, but was it more rude of the guy to be having breath that bad? I mean, he had to have realized it - it was really bad. Feel free to give your opinions here. I think I may "Dear Abby" this one, though.

Sometimes people don't know their breath is bad... but I would have taken out some gum, unwrapped and chewed a piece myself and kindly offered. You never know. :-D

Congrats on getting the part. If I'm able to travel and the gals all get together to make the trip maybe we can all come and see you.

I look forward to seeing you in a play! I am local so whenever there are performances, I would love to come!!

I would have done exactly the same thing. I would have offered gum as I was chewing it. Depending on how I cared, I may have just told him he needed some. I am reaching for a mint now.....hehe

That was a very clever idea on Sarah's part. I wouldn't have thought to do that...

Speaking of gross things in small proximity. On our way into the doctor yesterday we had to ride in the elevator with several people (all in the same family) with body odor. UGH! As they stepped off and the doors closed we both burst out with, "They were stinky" in union. Kendall then had to buy me a Coke....hehe...sorry couldn't help The Office reference.

Viki-
Holly here. I just had a thought about your new friend with the breath. Our cat had obnoxiously bad breath about a year ago; turns out he had a tooth abscess that went through his sinus to his eye. He had to have 4 teeth pulled. You might refer your friend to a vet. We like ours.

One of our cats, Wille, has the most vile breath I've ever had the pleasure (?) to smell from a cat. He love to get right in your face, too, so it can get kinda gross. Ugh!
