Life update

I just wanted to post real quick and update people on my life at the moment – I know the past few weeks have been pretty quiet from me. I explained this on someone else’s blog, but right now I’m at the new job so I don’t want to spend too much personal time on the computer, and we don’t have a computer at our house. Our apartment complex has computers in the main office, but I leave before it opens and get home after it closes, so it’s either spend too much time at mom’s house (at which I also practice a little and am currently doing laundry) and not get to relax, or don’t write. It’ll get better eventually.

Almost a second week has gone by at my job. Honestly, the work isn’t too boring, and there’s a lot of it right now so I’m being kept very busy. It’s really not what I want to be doing (and go figure that Laura’s found me some arts admin jobs – one of them education – for me this week) but it’s nice not going home and thinking too much about work, at least not like I was doing at the opera company. The people here are really nice, the office is really relaxed, and working downtown is cool – I went and ate my lunch in Grant Park today and only had to walk across the street. J

Another good thing about just having a normal job is that I can schedule things for evenings and weekends; I’m planning on auditioning for St. James’ production of “Pirates of Penzance” on Sunday. I may not do it, but if I get Mabel, which is perfect for my voice, it’ll be a busy summer and I’ll have fun being in my first real show since UD. Good thing about that it if it happens is that with Trey conducting we’ll get to spend more time together that way.

I’m sure it all won’t last forever, though. I’m thinking that I really do want to student teach by next spring, if only to actually finish my degree, so in the fall I’ll test the waters and see if they’re supportive of me working from home and on Saturdays for a few months in the spring so I can student teach. We’ll see.

On a completely different note, we found a great new church that we’re going to join - they’re recruiting us to be in the choir already and have invited us to the end of the year choir party. Funny story, too - when we were introduced to the pastor he jumped back and screamed a little because it turns out his wife’s name is Vicki Johnson, too. I’ll end up going by myself this week as Trey’s working (he’s having a really good time being a Wine Consultant!), but that’s Ok, and the week after we can’t go because we’ll be in Texas!

So, that’s all for now – more blogging this weekend, I promise!

Good luck on the try-out. I'm sure that means a road trip for the gals to come and see the show! :-D

Glad to hear work is going well for you. Even better is that you have a life on top of it. :-)
