Lots of people have asked me how I enjoyed the wine tasting on Friday night, to which I reply that I had a great time. One of my co-workers, Tony, and I were talking about it, and he said that his daughter actually went to this particular winery with her school last fall, when the kids were doing lessons on wine making. The kids got to see both the old-fashioned wine-making tools and the old wooden casks, as well as the modern equipment and steel casks. All of them had to bring some grapes along and got to crush them during their visit, and each one brought home a little bottle of juice.
I don't know about you, but I think that's one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Wine is such a big part of the culture here - all 3 of the Italians I work with make their own wine - that it makes a lot of sense. Could you imagine all of the protesting that would go on in the states, though?

There could even be a fun little cartoon character in an ad campaign to get kids drinking early, like Joe Camel used to do for smoking! :-)
I would have loved going to a winery for a field trip. I know when I was a kid we went as a family to the "islands" on the lake and visited the local winery there. I secretly had my first taste there, but their sparkling was awesome.
