I'm going to apologize in advance for the length of this post, and for not having posted for a few days...the internet at work has been very tempermental, and since we're living in a hotel now and have to go to the library while at "home," that becomes a matter of mustering up the energy to get down there, and then keeping it up/re-signing up after getting kicked off of the computer after 30 minutes when it gets busy. Add to that trying to look for jobs and apartments online and, well, you get it.
Thursday night I did call Ravinia just to confirm the interview: I'm all set for Monday the 27th at 11am. I have been obsessing over it ever since then, thinking of what I'm going to say, what I'm going to ask, and all of that. I've come to the conclusion that they should have no reason not to think I'm the best person ever, and that if I don't get the job it's because a) they're already thinking of someone specific, or b) they just have something wrong with them. I'm also really hoping that I can find something really sharp to wear when I go shopping next week - I need something that will fit over my cast!
Friday was quite a day. I got to work over 3 hours before the Rec Center opened so I could be here for the cleaning lady. After she was gone I had plenty of time to do my resistance band exercises in the office, fight with the internet, and obsess over Ravinia some more before I opened. When I did open...my first patron was a security guy who came in to play pool. Now I normally start chatting with people if they seem like they want to talk, and when I asked him how things were going for him, he replied by telling me that things were going a lot better for him than for the MAs, who'd found a dead body upstairs in the barracks (dorms) that morning. My second patron was a young lady who'd worked with the owner of this body, and who was obviously very upset. All day the rec center was full of people who lived on the 4th floor, which was being secured because NCIS was investigating. No official word has been released as to what happened, and things are still very quiet around here.
Not 20 minutes after that all started, one of my friends came in, also upset, because he'd talked to his father the night before...apparently, his family hadn't been telling him about all of the bad stuff that's been going on for the past 5 months. One of his grandfathers passed away, the other fell and will be unable to walk for the next year, and his closest cousin committed suicide, as did one of his good friends from school. In just letting him talk for a little while, I learned that his command was already taking steps to make sure he'd be OK, and that they'd referred him to counseling. That made me feel a lot better.
The rest of the afternoon went a little more smoothly, and Friday night Trey and I were able to rent Sideways and have dinner in our hotel room...funny, though, is that we were drinking Guiness in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I guess we drink enough wine that it made up for drinking the beer while watching the wine movie.
Saturday was much better. I spent the morning doing nothing but relaxing and re-dying my hair with some wash-out dye. Now instead of being a funky mix of half black/half red, it's a dark reddish-brown all over. When Trey got back to the hotel after transporting cats, we went to the library and bought a cell phone plan over the internet - free shipping to Evi's house, plus after the mail-in rebate the activiation of the phones will be free, and I got 2,000 points (anyone do Mypoints?). Go Viki! After a nice relaxing afternoon nap, we got to visit the cats before going to Fred's for dinner. Trey even let me fall asleep in the car on the way home (he was driving, of course). What a nice day.
Anyway, that's more than enough for now, I'm sure. I've spent some time today looking for more apartments, and hoping it's not shallow of me to be thrilled with my evened-out hair color and great cellular find after the events of Friday. I guess life has to keep going, though.
Final note before I shut up - everyone needs to go read Armand's blog, specifically his post from Thursday. It's beautiful.

I have to admit Viki, I've been pretty bored the past few days and been checking everyone's blogs a couple times a day. I always look forward to reading yours because they take up more time. :-) I'm not saying your long-winded, I just need something to occupy my time and they do. And well, as you said yourself you had been procrastinating. Anyway, I'm glad you posted. Good luck on the move. And don't worry about the interview, you'll do great. Oh and I want to see a picture of your hair!
And thanks for sending people to my blog.
Have I said recently that your husband is THE MAN!!! ;-)
Kilroy was here!
Congrats on the hair color.
I can't imagine anyone not wanting to hire you. In the four hours I have been in your presence in my life, I would hire you! Don't obsess about it. It only makes you more nervious!
You'll do fine with the interview... we all obsess about those types of events because we want it to go well.
Living in a hotel is no fun. I'm sure you'll be glad to be home (back here in the states).
You'll have to take a pic of your hair (like Karen did) so we can all oohhh and ahhhahh over it.
you will OWN that interview, chica. No doubt about it. Having the confidence you have about it will only solidify that outcome! :)
I want to see you with red hair! we need an upclose picture!
As if it need to be said, if they don't hire you something is wrong with them, and maybe they are friends with Lisa's boss and live in Fantasyland.
You are the woman!
Post a pic of your hair!
Posting a picture of my hair will have to wait, as Trey packed the cable that connects my camera to the computer and we won't have it for 2 months. Plus, we don't have a scanner right now either. I'll get one up as soon as I can!
