A beautiful day for singing

I don't know how the weather is where all of you are, but today it's just beautiful here. I'm in a good mood because it's sunny and pretty warm, and because the rain held off while I was walking around in Vomero before and after my voice lesson. I almost went down to the market there, where you can find all sorts of just about anything you'd want or need, but decided against it because 1) I'd end up spending too much and 2) I don't really need any more stuff to clutter up my house.

I'm also in a good mood because I felt like I had a good lesson. It's kind of funny how much can be accomplished despite the language barrier, although I think a large part of that is because I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to singing. Still, I feel like I've made remarkable progress in the four lessons I've had so far in terms of counteracting bad habits I've let creep in. I sounded like a different singer after only the first lesson, and I feel like my voice is much freer. Today was also good because he let me move past the the classic Italian arias we've been working on to a short aria from an opera. I'd figured that he was going to keep me on the much easier songs for another month or so, but I guess my voice is shaping up a little faster and he thinks I've gotten the foundation down. :-)

Something else fun about voice lessons is that my teacher is such a cute man. He's in his 60s and probably only about 5 feet tall, if that. My lessons are conducted completely in Italian but he'll often ask me what a word is in English, repeat it, and smile as if he's getting a real kick out of learning a bit of English. I think he also thinks it's funny that I'll translate entire sentences into English after he says them in Italian to convey that I understand what he's saying. I don't know if this helps at all, but it makes me feel better.

Well, enough of my rambling for today. Hope it's beautiful wherever you are!

That stupid groundhog screwed us up here in cincinnati. Ever since 2/2 it's been cold (20's) and gray. Today it's supposed to get up into the 40's but that's nothing to the 50 degree weather we had through January.

I miss hearing you sing in the basement! your melodies used to travel through the ducts and right into my green bedroom. :( I wish blogger.com would let you attach sound files. :(

Jealous of your weather we are here in gloomy/partly sunny/cold Ohio. :-(

You voice was always beautiful. The last time I heard you sing was at Karen's wedding. :-D
